Southampton vs Aston Villa Prediction

Southampton versus Aston Villa is expected to be a one-sided contest, as the Saints have already been relegated from the Premier League with seven games to spare, while Aston Villa are aiming to qualify for the Champions League in back-to-back seasons.

The Saints have had an abysmal season and are now managerless following the departure of Ivan Juric. At St. Mary’s, Southampton have earned just five points from 15 matches.

Aston Villa’s away record has been poor at times this season, as the Villains have accumulated 20 points from 15 games away from Villa Park, however, they will more than fancy themselves against a Southampton side that have conceded 40 league goals at home this campaign.

In terms of head-to-head records, Aston Villa have won all of the last four matches between the two sides without conceding a goal, something that we expect to Unai Emery’s men to replicate here.

Prediction: Southampton 0-2 Aston Villa

Southampton vs Aston Villa Prediction & Preview

Seventh-place Aston Villa travels to bottom of the table Southampton in the hope of strengthening their bid to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Date: 12/04/2025

Location: St. Mary’s

Time: 3pm

The previous meeting between these two sides saw Aston Villa scrape a 1-0 win over the Saints at Villa Park as Jhon Duran scored the only goal of the game in the 24th-minute of the game - during that match, Villa took 18 shots to Southampton’s four.

In the last head-to-head meeting at St. Mary’s back in January 2023, Villa scraped a 1-0 victory at St. Mary’s thanks to an Ollie Watkins header from an out-swinging Douglas Luiz free kick.

Monday saw Ivan Juric’s time as Southampton manager come to an end having won two of his 16 matches in charge of the club. At present, the Saints are desperately aiming to avoid being the worst-ever Premier League side, as they sit on 10 points from 31 matches, one point fewer than Derby County’s overall points tally in the 2007/08 season.

Aston Villa’s run-in is an exciting one, as they are seventh in the standings with 51 points from 31 matches, seeing them sit just two points shy of fourth-place Chelsea.

On top of their solid Premier League campaign, Unai Emery’s men managed to qualify for the semi-finals of the FA Cup where they’ll face Crystal Palace, while in the UEFA Champions League, the Villains thrashed Club Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the Round of 16 to set up a quarter-final tie with PSG - they suffered a 3-1 defeat away at the Parc des Princes in the first leg.

Form Guide

Southampton

Southampton’s relegation back to the Championship was confirmed with a 3-1 defeat away at Tottenham Hotspur as Brennan Johnson fired in a brace before Mateus Fernandes pulled a late goal back prior to a Mathys Tel penalty.

The Saints came agonizingly close to beating Crystal Palace on 2nd April as Matheus Franca scored a stoppage time equaliser to snatch a 1-1 draw for the Eagles after Paul Onuachu had given Southampton the lead in the 20th-minute.

In the run-up to those matches, Southampton had suffered further defeats to the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers (2-1), Liverpool (3-1) and Chelsea (4-0).

Aston Villa

Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from their 3-1 away defeat to PSG on Wednesday night. The Villains took the lead through Morgan Rogers in the 35th-minute of that game, however, sensational goals by Desire Doue, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Nuno Mendes turned the game on its head.

Prior to that, Unai Emery’s men had beaten Nottingham Forest 2-1 thanks to goals by Rogers and Donyell Malen, on top of further wins against Brighton & Hove Albion (3-0), Preston North End (3-0) and Club Brugge (3-0).
