Southampton vs Manchester City Prediction

Southampton are merely counting down the games before their dreadful season reaches its inevitable end. For Manchester City, this should be an easy victory for a side that is somehow within reach of potentially finishing second in the Premier League.

Southampton are ending their season on an awful note, with the Saints having gone 12 games without a win in all competitions and having not kept a clean sheet in 16 matches. The Saints have conceded first in four of their previous five games, as they take on a side that has scored first in four of their last five matches.

Pep Guardiola’s side has largely underperformed this season. However, his side has regained momentum and form during the latter stages of the campaign. The visitors are unbeaten in nine matches in all competitions and have won their previous five games in a row.

Manchester City were the victors in the league meeting earlier this season, and with Southampton’s form getting progressively worse through the campaign, a win for the visitors is the only option here.

Southampton conceded twice against Leicester City in their previous game, and with the increased quality in opposition, Manchester City could be set for more goals here.

Southampton 0-4 Manchester City

Southampton vs Manchester City Preview & Prediction

Relegated Southampton take on a reinvigorated Manchester City side, who are closing in on a potential second-placed finish at the end of a disappointing season for the former Premier League Champions.

Date: 10/05/2025
Location: St.Mary’s, Southampton.
Kick-Off: 3 pm

Southampton’s defeat against fellow relegated side Leicester City (2-0), now leaves the Saints in a precarious position in relation to Derby County’s unwanted points tally record of 2007/08. The Saints now have three games left to play (Manchester City, Everton & Arsenal) to gain only one point to avoid being level with the Derby County side, who finished their respective season with 11 points.

It has been a dismal season from the Saints, as the writing had been on the wall under the tenure of Russell Martin and Ivan Juric, who made no improvements during their short-lived spell at the club.

Southampton will end the season at the bottom of the Premier League after their defeat against Leicester City. The Saints have only won two Premier League games this season, drawing five and losing 28.

Manchester City have had an underwhelming season, judging by their previous record-setting standards in the Premier League. The Citizens are likely to finish inside the top four places, with their run of fixtures looking very favourable heading towards the end of the season. Injuries to the likes of Rodri and John Stones have disrupted the overall structure of the team this season, adding to the lacklustre performances on show from Pep Guardiola’s side.

Despite the disappointing league showing, the away side are somehow within reach of second-place Arsenal and with the Gunners faltering in the Premier League, Manchester City could close the gap and move level on points with a win against Southampton. The reverse meeting between the two sides resulted in a 1-0 win for Manchester City, thanks to an early strike from Erling Haaland.

Where to watch

The game will not be available to watch in the UK because of the 3 pm Blackout.

Southampton Team News

Charlie Taylor remains a long-term absentee for Southampton, but with relegation already confirmed, his absence is hardly going to change the fortunes of the stuttering Saints.

Manchester City Team News

Erling Haaland’s return to the squad against Wolverhampton Wanderers provided a much-welcome boost for Pep Guardiola. The injury issues for the visiting side are showing signs of improvement, with the likes of Rodri and Nathan Ake returning to training.

Form Guide

Southampton:

Southampton are on a terrible run of form, with the Saints without a win in their previous 12 matches and having not kept a clean sheet in 16 games in all competitions. Southampton’s only credible result in their last 12 games was the 1-1 draw against West Ham United. Aside from that, Southampton have suffered defeats against Leicester City (2-0), Fulham (1-2), Aston Villa (0-3) and Tottenham Hotspur (3-1).

On home soil, Southampton have the worst home record in the division, with only one win from 17 home games, accumulating only five points at St.Mary’s this season.

Manchester City:

Manchester City are coming into this game with excellent form behind them. The visitors for this match are unbeaten in their previous nine matches, having won their last five consecutive games, which included a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup semi-final. In the Premier League, Pep Guardiola’s side have won their previous four league games against Everton (0-2), Crystal Palace (5-2), Aston Villa (2-1) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (1-0).

Away from home, Manchester City have only won twice in their previous five games on the road but are unbeaten in their previous two away games, with the win against Everton and a 0-0 draw in the Manchester Derby.
