Wolverhampton Wanderers are hoping to separate themselves from the relegation zone in the Premier League as they take on Everton this weekend.
- Date: 08/03/2025
- Kick-off time: 20:00
- Location: Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton
Wolves currently sit 17th in the Premier League with 22 points from 27 games. Wolves have had a pretty rough campaign on the whole and aside from the three promoted clubs, they're the only other side left in the relegation battle.
There are currently five points separating Wolves from 18th-place Ipswich, so they have a decent cushion. There is also the fact that Ipswich have given few indications that they're likely to put a run together in the coming weeks, while Wolves have been steadily improving since the arrival of manager Vítor Pereira.
They will still be nervously looking over their shoulder, however, as things are far from done and dusted. It only takes a couple of bad results, and a couple of decent ones for Ipswich, to flip the relegation battle on its head, and with star player Matheus Cunha potentially facing a somewhat lengthy ban for a violent outburst in the team's FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth last weekend, there might be some jeopardy on the horizon.
Wolves remain the favourites to beat the drop regardless of any potential suspension for Cunha, but they need to be taking points from home games against Everton if they want their run-in to be comfortable.
Everton currently sit 16th in the Premier League with 32 points from 27 games. Since David Moyes' spectacular return to the club, the Toffees' form has been transformed, and what looked on course to be a depressing end to their time at Goodison Park now looks likely to be a glorious one.
The Toffees are unbeaten in their last seven league games under Moyes, and they've put that run together while missing a host of key players through injury. One man who's stepped up to the plate since Moyes' arrival has been striker Beto, who looks a man reborn. Beto struggled to make a mark under Dyche, but the Bissau-Guinean has five goals in eight games under Moyes and is starting to show the club that he can be the line leader in future seasons.
David Moyes and co are almost in a position where they can relax and enjoy the final games of the season as they are, in reality, only a few points away from sealing survival. They'll no doubt be starting to think about next season and what can be done to take the team to the next level, and many players will be fighting to prove their worth to the club heading into next season.
As far as this game is concerned, Everton are in good shape heading into this game and they're fighting to finish as high in the top half as possible.
