League Two odds and tips as Salford City host Stevenage on Saturday afternoon.
Ruthless Salford - who evidently clearly have ambitions higher up the EFL - have sacked two coaches this season but those decisions don't appear likely to deliver them the top seven finish the club hierarchy have targeted, and certainly not automatic promotion. However, just five points off the play-offs, there's still plenty to fight for in their last eight games, and some positive signs to build on. They boast the best defensive record in the division with just 31 goals conceded - six fewer than league leaders Cambridge United - while only second-placed Cheltenham have lost fewer games. But their major issue has been turning tight games into wins - no side in the top half of the table has won fewer.
It's been a mixed start for new boss Gary Bowyer with a loss, a draw and a victory, but at least those have come in the right order, suggesting progress, with a solid 2-0 win at sixth-placed Forest Green on Easter Monday ending a run of six winless games.
But Stevenage make the trip to the Peninsula Stadium in strong form and could even leapfrog Salford to move up into the top half if they can come away with a victory. Monday's hard-fought 1-1 draw at home to in-form Bradford extended Stevenage's unbeaten run to 12 games, while they've taken 10 points from the last 12 available. Since the turn of the year, only Cambridge and Bolton have taken more points than Alex Revell's men.
Stevenage are yet to take a point - or even score a goal - from Salford, since they joined one another in this division back in 2019. Salford have won all three of their previous meetings to nil, winning the reverse fixture 1-0 back in early October.
