Inter host Real Sociedad on Tuesday evening at the San Siro/Giuseppe Meazza. The two teams are already guaranteed to go through, but we should be in for a competitive game with both sides wanting to top Group D.
Inter
Nerazzurri will be desperate to go one step further than last season after they were defeated in the final versus Manchester City. Their response this season has been impressive, with Inter currently taking up the second spot on 11 points, only behind this week’s opponents on goal difference. Simone Inzaghi’s side have conceded five goals and scored eight.
Inter have also only lost once all season in the Serie A, and they lead the way in Italy. That defeat occurred in September and they’re now 13 games unbeaten. Last weekend, Inter convincingly beat Udinese 4-0 and were able to rotate some key players in the second half.
Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad have been excellent this season, only losing three times across all competitions, which was at the hands of Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona. This means that Erreala are unbeaten in the Champions League, and they lead the group with 11 points. They’re incredible defensively, only conceding twice! On the other hand, they’ve only scored 7 goals which could cost them in the latter stages of the competition.
Last weekend they defeated Villareal 3-0 on the road, however they were slightly lucky to keep a clean sheet, as they suffered 2.29 xG. Unfortunately, Brais Mendez was forced off on the half hour mark, and his creativity will be missed in the week if he is unable to feature.
Verdict?
Inter have won six out of their eight home matches this season, conceding just five goals. Whereas Sociedad have only won three of their eight away matches, conceding eight. This game should be decided by fine margins, with both teams especially strong at the back.
