Roma and Feyenoord are set to clash in the second leg of a Europa League battle that sees the Eredivisie side lead with a 1-0 victory at home last time out as the Serie A outfit look to carry on their European dream of consecutive major titles.
The Europa Conference League winners have a lot of work to do in order to edge past an in-form Feyenoord side. Roma were always going to have a tough time in the Netherlands given the excellent form of the league leaders in the Dutch top flight. Last Thursday, Mats Wieffer's second half goal was the difference against Roma, despite the Rome side having 17 shots and three on target compared to Feyenoord's 12 efforts and two on target.
In truth, however, Jose Mourinho's men never looked like scoring and struggled to get into the game throughout the 90 minutes at the Feyenoord Stadium.
Roma did bounce back with a convincing 3-0 win over Udinese at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend, however, as Edoardo Bove scored in the first half before Lorenzo Pellegrini scored in the 55th minute of the game. Tammy Abraham added a third in the 91st minute of the game in a match that saw Roma have seven shots on target.
The win keeps Roma in third with just eight games left in Serie A and with Lazio five clear in second and AC Milan just two points behind in fourth, Mourinho's men are still needing to fight on both fronts right until the end if they are to get into the Champions League for next season.
As for Feyenoord, they smashed Cambuur 3-0 on Sunday with a goal each from Santiago Gimenez and a finish in the second half from Sebastian Szymanski. An own goal added a third, but the Eredivisie league leaders ended up having nine shots on target from 25 efforts throughout the game.
They also hammered RKC Waalwijk 5-1 earlier in April, but the men from Rotterdam lost 2-1 to Ajax in the KNVB Cup semi-finals. Regardless, they are eight clear of Ajax in second in the league and the club are the clear favourites to secure their first league title since 2016/17
