Union Berlin and Ajax are set to meet in the Europa League second leg this Thursday evening with the two sides playing out a lacklustre and dull 0-0 draw back in Amsterdam with the Bundesliga side now favoured to head through.
Union are now 23/20 to win the battle on the night and 4/7 to now progress as the winner of the tie. The Bundesliga side did, however, go on to register another 0-0 draw against Schalke just a few days on from the draw in the Netherlands. It means it's the first time this season the high-flying German side have managed to draw 0-0 twice in a row and also the first time they've not scored for two games on the bounce.
Nevertheless, this is still turning out to be the best season in the club's history, as they are now higher in the Bundesliga table than they have ever been. This also comes with them winning 13 games - this is one more than Bayern's tally of 12. Union have also lost just four times, which is two fewer than Borussia Dortmund just above them. In fact, with just 24 goals conceded and 35 scored from 21 Bundesliga games, the side from the capital are level on points with Bayern in first and Dortmund in second.
As for Ajax, they have managed to move back up into second in the Eredivisie after a recent win over Sparta Rotterdam. The champions of the Netherlands saw Dusan Tadic net twice against Rotterdam, as Kenneth Taylor and Mohammed Kudus also scored a goal each in the game. Quite incredibly, Ajax had 75% of the ball that day and 12 shots on target in what was arguably their best win of the season in the league. Despite the fantastic result, the club are still behind Feyenoord in first by three points.
