Switzerland vs Kosovo Prediction, Tips & Stats

Switzerland will play hosts to Kosovo this weekend with the home side already featuring during this international break against Israel while the away team also defeated the Israelis just over a week ago.

Ruben Vargas was the hero for Switzerland in the 1-1 draw over Israel on Wednesday, but Edimilson Fernandes was also sent off and won't be able to feature here. Nevertheless, the Swiss still remain top of the table and are four clear of Israel in third place with only two games left to play. Ultimately, a win here for them would see them qualify for Euro 2024 with a game left to spare. Switzerland are still also unbeaten in Group I and have now drawn four and lost four games too.

The last match between these two ended in a 2-2 draw, as Vedat Muriqi continued to show why he is Kosovo's greatest-ever goalscorer with two goals, including an equaliser in the 94th minute - he is, however, injured for this game. Remo Freuler scored for Switzerland, as an own goal from Amir Rrahmani was the difference in them getting a point.

As for Kosovo, then can still qualify with six points left on the table and a six-point gap on Romania and Switzerland in the two qualification spots. However, they must now hope they win both their games and one of either Romania and Switzerland lose both their matches, while Israel are also two points above them in third.

          Switzerland team news

Yann Sommer will get his 86th cap here after a great start to life at Inter Milan, while Ricardo Rodriguez will get his 112th cap in defence. Newcastle United's Fabian Schar and Manchester City's Manuel Akanji will start alongside him, as should Jordan Lotomba. Granit Xhaka has had a sensational start to life with Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, and he will aim to get his 15th goal from his 119th cap. Xherdan Shaqiri will also get his 118th cap and look for his 20th Switzerland goal. Remo Freuler and Denis Zakaria should make up the rest of the midfield, but expect Dijbril Sow to also start. Ruben Vargas and Noah Okafor should also start here, but Zeki Amdouni of Burnley has six goals in eight caps and should feature. Silvan Widmer, Steven Zuber and Haris Seferovic are the biggest absentees for Switzerland heading into this game.

          Kosovo team news

The main man for Kosovo is Vedat Muriqi of Mallorca, but he is out injured for this game and won't feature during the international break alongside his 26 goals in 51 caps - he is also their all-time leading goalscorer at 29 years old and by some distance. Hekuran Kryeziu is also not going to feature here, while Lille's Edon Zhegrova makes up an alarming injury list after his injury picked up for the Ligue 1 side two weeks ago. Things get worse with Napoli's Amir Rrahmani also out injured in defence, while Valon Zumberi of Hamburger has not made the squad. Goalscoring attention now turns to Elbasan Rashani of Clermont Foot, while Milot Rashica will captain the side too from midfield after another solid start with Besiktas this season. Mërgim Vojvoda of Torino will start in defence, while Burnley's Arijanet Muric will get his 37th cap in goal
