Netherlands vs Croatia Prediction, Tips & Stats

The Nations League returns during the week with the Netherlands and Croatia set to clash in the backyard of the Dutch as Du Kuip plays hosts to Ronald Koeman's men in search of another final.

This will be the second set of competitive games for the former Everton manager after the retirement of Louis van Gaal after the World Cup. Koeman guided his side to a 3-0 win over Gibraltar in the last match after a Nathan Ake brace from the back alongside a finish from Memphis Depay. The Atletico Madrid man scored his 44th goal for his country that day but now misses out due to injury, while Ake likely misses out after playing in the Champions League final last Saturday.

Despite an easy win against Gibraltar, Koeman's first game in charge of his country came in a 4-0 loss to France in Paris. They have, however, already reached a Nations League final after beating England back in 2018 before a loss to Portugal in the final.

          Croatia team news

Marko Livaja and Luka Sucic are out injured for Croatia and Sime Vrsaljko retired after the World Cup along with Dejan Lovren. Lovre Kalinić and Josko Gvardiol are also out of action with injuries too. Ivan Perisic and Andrej Kramarić have 56 goals between them and over 200 caps and they will lead the line once more for Croatia with Bruno Petkovic also likely to start. Luka Modric will head into this game in search of his 165th cap as Mateo Kovacic goes for his 94th cap. Mario Pasalic and Nikola Vlasic should also play but Marcelo Brozovic likely misses out after playing in the Champions League final the other day. Dominik Livaković will play in goal for Croatia once more and Domagoj Vida will likely play his 101st game for Croatia from the back.

          Netherlands team news

Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen will battle for a spot in the striker role with Wout Weghorts set to miss out on a starting spot. Steven Bergwuijn may also start in search of his eighth goal for his country. Georginio Wijnaldum, Frenkie de Jonh and Marten de Roon likely start in midfield with Xavi Simons looking for his fourth cao. Joey Veerman and Tijjani Reijnders are two uncapped players for the Dutch in midfield. Virgil van Dijk will captain the side from the back with Daley Blind aiming for his 102nd cap at 33 with Tyrell Malacia and Nathan Ake set to start too. Denzel Dumfries should start at right-back with Sven Botman hoping to get his first cap for the Netherlands after a sensational season with Newcastle. asper Cillessen has missed out on a callup, as has Stefan de Vrij, as he played in the Champions League final just five days ago. Bruno Martins Indi is out injured, while Davy Klaassen and Jordy Clasie are both out too. Memphis Depay is also out injured and his 44 goals in 88 goals will be a huge miss for his nation. Luuk de Jong retired after the World Cup and he is out too
