Spain vs Austria Prediction

Spain made a slow start to the group stage with that surprise goalless draw against Cape Verde, but went on to secure back-to-back victories against Saudi Arabia and Uruguay, looking more like the potential World Cup winners we expected to see.

Austria slipped to a 2-0 defeat in their toughest group game against Argentina, but a win against Jordan and a draw with Algeria earned them their spot in the last 32.

There really isn't much between these two sides historically, with the pair meeting on three occasions and producing one win, one draw and one defeat apiece. However, Spain did claim a 4-0 victory the last time these two sides locked horns back in 2001.

Spain have scored three or more goals in eight of their last 13 matches across all competitions, so we can see the favourites creating plenty of chances and scoring enough goals to dominate this game. However, Austria have only failed to score in two of their last 14 international fixtures, so we are expecting goals at both ends of the pitch in this game.

In terms of goalscorers, we are backing Mikal Oyarzabal to find the back of the net for Spain. The Real Sociedad legend scored 15 La Liga goals in 34 appearances last season, and is Spain's top goalscorer at the 2026 World Cup with two goals.

Spain 3-1 Austria
