Belgium vs Romania - Footy Accumulators Prediction

Belgium faces a crucial match against Romania, where a win is a must to re-establish their place in the tournament. We anticipate a strong bounce-back performance from the Red Devils securing a decisive victory. Lukaku, hungry for his first goal of the tournament after two disallowed by VAR, poses a significant threat up front. Additionally, Trossard's consistent offensive contributions, with 3+ shots in 4 of his last 5 competitive matches, add another dimension to Belgium's attack.

While Romania's opening-day victory against Ukraine has instilled confidence, they are unlikely to sustain that momentum against a determined Belgian side. The Romanian defense, particularly M. Marin and Bancu, will face a formidable challenge against De Bruyne and Trossard, respectively. We predict a 2-0 victory for Belgium, showcasing their resilience and offensive prowess.

Belgium vs Romania: Preview, Prediction & Betting Tips

Romania take on Belgium hoping to pick up a positive result which would put them in a very strong position to advance to the knockout stages of the European Championships.

            • Date: 22/06/24
            • Kick-off time: 20:00
            • Venue: RheinEnergieStadion

After an impressive 3-0 victory against Ukraine in their opening game, Romania have an opportunity to take one huge step towards the Round of 16 with at least a draw against Belgium. Romania came into the tournament as underdogs in the group, but picked up just their second ever win in Euros history to top the group heading into matchday two.

They will take on a Belgium side who were favourites to win the group, but suffered a shocking 1-0 loss against Slovakia on Monday evening to make this a crucial fixture in their hopes of qualifying for the next stage. Another defeat for the Red Devils would put them in a very precarious position heading into their final game against Ukraine. Victory would allow them to seize control of the group.

Belgium have plenty of attacking talent on their books, none more so than the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku, but they struggled against Slovakia, despite enjoying success in front of goal prior to the tournament. In the three games before, they scored seven and conceded two, so will be looking to get back on track against Romania. The Romanians’ three-goal outing last time out followed two goalless draws, so the Belgian backline should be a big test for their opponents. Striker Denis Dragus scored against Ukraine, and has just had a solid season for Turkish side Gaziantep netting 14 times, so he will be one to look out for.

There have been 12 previous meetings between these two sides, with there being nothing to split the pair. Belgium and Romania have both recorded five wins each and two draws. However, it has been over a decade since they last played each other, with the last fixture coming in an international friendly back in 2012. Romania were 2-1 winners that day, having come from behind after an opening goal from Christian Benteke. All but two meetings were international friendlies, the two competitive fixtures coming in World Cup qualifying. This means that this will be the first time they face off in the European Championships.

            Team News

            Belgium

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was not called up to the squad following a lack of game time after serious knee injuries. Jan Vertonghen and Arthur Theate were fit enough for the bench after picking up injuries. Belgium should have no new fitness concerns.

            Romania

Romania came out of the first game against Ukraine unscathed, so should have a fully fit squad to choose from.

            Form Guide

            Belgium

In their last five games, Belgium have won two, drawn two and lost one. It had been an inconsistent stretch for Belgium heading into the tournament, though they ended their preparations with two wins in a row. However, they were unable to continue that momentum as they were defeated 1-0 by Slovakia in their group opener. The only goal of the game came early on, as Ivan Schranz and his side capitalised on an error by Jeremy Doku to go ahead. Belgium had two goals disallowed for offside and a handball on what was a very frustrating afternoon.

They ended their preparations for the Euros with consecutive wins, the latest being a 3-0 win over Luxembourg. It was complete domination, with their opponents mustering just one attempt and none on target. Belgium enjoyed 72% of the ball and 27 shots and broke the deadlock just before half-time through a Romelu Lukaku penalty. The striker added his and his side’s second shortly into the second half, before Leandro Trossard added a third late on to put the game to bed. This followed a 2-0 victory against Montenegro, in which they scored late in each half to secure the win. It was Kevin De Bruyne who opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time, and Trossard converted a penalty in second half stoppage time.

A friendly against England at Wembley preceded this, and it was honours even as the game finished 2-2. Youri Tielemans netted after 11 minutes to put the visitors a goal up, though this was cancelled out by an Ivan Toney penalty shortly after. Tielemans restored the lead before the break, but England pegged them back once more at the death through Jude Bellingham. The first game of this run was another draw, as they were held goalless by Republic of Ireland. There were limited opportunities with the two sides combining for just three shots on target.

            Romania

In their last five games, Romania have won one, lost one and drawn three. Romania had endured a difficult stretch but they were able to pick up a very positive result with a 3-0 win against Ukraine in their opening group stage fixture. Nicolae Stanciu opened the scoring on half an hour with a stunning finish into the top left hand corner from long range. Razvan Marin doubled the lead with another strike from outside the box, with the ball eluding goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Denis Dragus scored a third moments later to put the game to bed.

They ended their preparations for this tournament with a pair of goalless draws against both Bulgaria and Liechtenstein. The first of these came at home to Bulgaria, in what was an even game of limited opportunities, and neither were unable to take advantage of any chances. It was a very similar story against Liechtenstein, as their struggles in front of goal continued. However, they showcased some strengths at the back with a second consecutive clean sheet.

This followed a 3-2 defeat at Colombia, their only loss of this stretch. They fell 3-0 behind, with goals from Jhon Cordoba and Jhon Arias putting Colombia two ahead before half-time, and Yaser Asprilla adding another with 11 minutes to go. Romania threatened a comeback late on thanks to Ianis Hagi and Florin Tanase, but they were unable to complete the turnaround. The first game of this stretch was a 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland. Their opponents were much the inferior side with 29% of the ball, but took the lead with one of their two shots on target through Jamie Reid early on. Dennis Man equalised soon after and this is how it remained for the rest of the game.
