    Netherlands vs Turkey Prediction

There will not be much to split these two teams, as we expect this game to be very close. However, we are backing Netherlands to just edge victory and advance due to their superior quality of their forward line.

The inconsistencies of both teams at the back means we are going for plenty of goals, with the Dutch’s experience coming up against the young, energetic attack of Turkey. Cody Gakpo is the tournament’s current top scorer with three, and he should be confident in adding to this tally in what could be a very open game. Expect Turkey’s Arda Guler to test the goalkeeper with at least one shot on target from outside the area - Netherlands 3-2 Turkey

Netherlands vs Turkey: Preview & Prediction

A place in the final four is at stake in the Euros, as Netherlands take on Turkey in the quarter-finals of the competition.

    Date: 06/07/24

    Kick-off time: 20:00

    Venue: Olympiastadion Berlin

It has been a mixed tournament so far for the Netherlands, but they have made it to the last eight of the Euros for the first time since 2008 with a 3-0 win over Romania. They endured an underwhelming group stage as they finished third behind Austria and France with four points from a possible nine. They were beaten 3-2 in their final group game by Austria, a result which cast doubt on their ability to go deep into the competition.

Netherlands were denied a rematch with Austria in the quarter-final as Turkey defeated them 2-1 in the Round of 16. Turkey have had a strong campaign and are seen by many as potential dark horses to go very far. They finished second in their group behind Portugal with six points and have impressed with their performances.

In their latest game against Austria, they were without main man Hakan Calhanoglu, who missed out through suspension, but Turkey’s young team enjoyed success without him, led by a brace from defender Merih Demiral. Real Madrid’s Arda Guler assumed more responsibilities in attack and will hope to continue to catch the eye going forward. He has already scored once so far.

They will be facing a Dutch defence who have been inconsistent, keeping two clean sheets in the four games they have played, but they have also conceded four goals in the other two. Turkey have scored seven goals and will likely be a huge threat.

At the other end, Netherlands have plenty of talent which will give the Turkish backline problems. Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is well in the race for the golden boot award after scoring his third goal of the tournament against Romania. Not too far behind him is teammate Donyell Malen, who bagged a brace in the same game. Turkey have yet to keep a clean sheet and will have their hands full trying to contain the pair.

Turkey have competed in the Euros just five times before, only making it past the quarter-finals once in 2008, when they were eliminated in the semis. They did not make it out of the group in their last two appearances. Netherlands are looking to win their second European Championship, but have not made it past this stage since 2004, when they made the semi-finals for the second consecutive time.

This will be the 15th meeting between these two sides. There is not much to split the teams with Netherlands winning six to Turkey’s four. They have met just twice in the last five years, both coming in World Cup qualifying in 2021. They won one game each with the latest a 6-1 win for Netherlands. Memphis Depay scored a hat-trick on this day.

    Form Guide

    Netherlands

In their last five games, Netherlands have won three, drawn one and lost one. Netherlands were in good form heading into the tournament, and started their Euros campaign with a win and draw in their first two group stage games. The first came against Poland, in which they had to come from behind to secure all three points. Taking on a side who were missing striker Robert Lewandowski, they conceded after 16 minutes to Adam Buksa. However, they did not trail for long as Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo found the equaliser. The game looked to be heading for a draw, but the Dutch were rewarded for their dominance with a late Wout Weghorst winner.

Against France they were able to record a goalless draw, giving them the opportunity to win the group on the final matchday. Both teams had their chances, but neither were able to find the breakthrough. Xavi Simons had a goal ruled out in the second half for offside after a lengthy VAR review. However, they fell to an end-to-end 3-2 defeat to Austria in the final game. They were already through, but this result meant they finished third in the group. Their opponents went ahead three times, with Gakpo and Memphis Depay responding to an own goal from Donyell Malen and further strikes from Romano Schmid and Marcel Sabitzer.

They advanced to the quarter-final with what ended up being a resounding 3-0 win against Romania. Gakpo gave them the lead before Malen added a late brace to put the game to bed. They came into the competition having won 4-0 against Iceland in their final warm-up game.

    Turkey

In their last five games, Turkey have won three and lost two. It had been a terrible run for Turkey heading into the European Championships, but they made the perfect start with a win against Georgia in their opening game. They scored two stunning goals through Mert Muldur and Arda Guler, either side of a Georges Mikautadze equaliser. Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu scored deep into stoppage time to secure a 3-1 win.

Turkey suffered a setback as they lost 3-0 to Portugal in the second game. Bernardo Silva opened the scoring, before a calamitous own goal from defender Samet Akaydin provided some daylight for their opponents. Bruno Fernandes added a third in the second half. They secured a second place finish with a 2-1 win over Czechia in the final game. A 20th minute red card for Czechia put them at an early disadvantage, and Turkey eventually took the lead shortly after the restart through Hakan Calhanoglu. However, they were pegged back soon after, before a 94th minute winner from Cenk Tosun stole three points at the death. They advanced to the quarter-final with a 2-1 win over Austria. They went ahead in the first minute through Merih Demiral, and he scored his second in the second half. Austria pulled one back but they could not muster a comeback.

Their preparations for the tournament ended with a 2-1 loss to Poland in their final friendly game. The defeat came in dramatic fashion as they conceded at the death. Poland went ahead after 12 minutes through Karol Swiderski, but Turkey found an equaliser in the final 15 minutes thanks to Baris Alper Yilmaz. However, Nicola Zalewski’s 90th minute strike secured a win for the hosts.
