10 players available on a free transfer next summer

Latest News

Fabregas Rabiot Ramsey Di Maria

Some big names could potentially be available on a free transfer

It's pretty fair to say that money in football has got ridiculously out of hand over the last few years. Players are paid more than ever, transfer fees have inflated to outrageous amounts and even agents are making an absolute fortune, with the sport distancing itself more and more from its tag of 'the working mans game'. Money has had a number of effects on the sport and it seems to have given players a lot more power. Many these days choose to run down their contracts so upon expiry they can be paid a significant signing on fee, which the buying club will be more than happy to pay on most occasions.

This means that they don't have to pay a rival club a big transfer fee, with the signing-on fee significantly in most cases than what it could cost to convince a club to part with their player. We've seen some very high profile cases of this over the last few years with players such as Emre Can, Stefan de Vrij, Leon Goretzka and Robert Lewandowski akk leaving following the expiry of their contracts. Well next summer could be another busy one when it comes to players on the move for 'free', with some big names now entering the final stages of their deals. We've taken a look at some of the players who potentially be available, read blow for more...

Adrien Rabiot

Current Club: PSG

There's some big names on this list but we're expecting this man to generate the most interest. 23 year-old Adrien Rabiot has established himself as one of the finest deep-lying playmakers over the left few seasons but a lack of game time in Paris has led to him running his contract down. Clubs such as Barcelona, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are all linked with him which proves just how highly rated he is and he will be an unbelievable signing for any club that manages to get him. PSG still harbour hopes of getting him tied down to a new deal but the longer this saga drags on it looks unlikely, especially with him able to negotiate with clubs in January when he enters the final 6 months of his contract.

Aaron Ramsey

Current Club: Arsenal

Another high profile player and someone else certainly won't be short on offers - Aaron Ramsey. The Welshmen looks set to end his 10 year stay in North London next summer and he's an extremely attractive proposition for any side in Europe. Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Juventus have all been linked with him and this decision is going to be huge for Ramsey as he takes the next step in his career. Injuries have hampered him during his time in football but when fit he's an excellent box-to-box midfielder. Ramsey possesses fantastic energy, great technical attributes and the ability to pop up with important goals at key times from midfield. Similar to Adrien Rabiot, clubs will queuing up to sign him this summer once his Arsenal deal expires.

Cesc Fabregas

Current Club: Chelsea

The first of three Chelsea players to feature on here, Cesc Fabregas could incredibly be available for nothing next summer. The Spaniard has struggled for game time at Stamford Bridge this summer but he would still be a major asset to any elite club in Europe. Fabregas is one of the Premier League's greatest ever midfielders with his statistics speaking for themselves - only Ryan Giggs (162) contributing more assists than him (111) and that's despite playing almost 300 fewer games. Fabregas may lack the physicality to play in a two man midfield but in a three he'd certainly do a job, so a move to Serie A could be a great option for him with AC Milan mooted by many journalists.

Angel Di Maria

Current Club: PSG

One of the highest profile names on this list. Angel Di Maria has enjoyed a glittering career playing for some elite clubs and despite hitting the age of 30, he will be an incredibly attractive option to clubs around Europe. The Argentina international has 97 caps to his name and he's proven time and time again he's a man for the big occasion, winning 4 league titles, 10 domestic cups, reaching the World Cup Final and winning the Champions League back in 2014 with Real Madrid - where he also won the man of the match award. One slight blemish on his CV is his time at Manchester United where he struggled to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, but Di Maria's achievements in the game and versatility (able to play anywhere across the forward line or middle) will mean he won't be short on offers should he choose to leave Paris.

Mousa Dembele

Current Club: Tottenham

Next up is a man that many will know well, Tottenham's Mousa Dembele. The Belgium international has been in the Premier League for 8 years now, originally joining Fulham as a striker back in 2010 but he's now one of the most complete box-to-box midfielders in the league. Dembele's power, presence and technical ability has seen him become one of the driving forces behind Tottenham's success over the last few years but injuries have restricted him recently. He looks destined to depart North London on a free transfer this summer and his absence will be felt greatly. If he can shake off these niggling injuries he would be a major coup for pretty much any side in Europe so it's going to be interesting see exactly where he ends up.

Olivier Giroud

Current Club: Chelsea

It only seems 5 minutes ago that Olivier Giroud left Arsenal for Chelsea, but he now appears to be on the verge of departing Stamford Bridge. The Frenchmen signed an 18 month contract with the West Londoners back in January and the general consensus is that it won't be renewed after struggling to hit the back of the net regularly since swapping red for blue. 3 goals in 22 PL appearances for Chelsea isn't great but he brings a lot more to the table than just goals, with Giroud a real team player who plays an important role. His presence and ability to occupy defenders has led to Eden Hazard shining at club level and Antoine Griezmann for the national team. Giroud was a big factor in France's World Cup win this summer and if he does leave Chelsea it's likely to be back to his homeland - with Marseille strongly linked.

Hector Herrera

Current Club: FC Porto

One man who's generating a significant amount of interest is FC Porto & Mexico man Hector Herrera. The 28 year-old is entering the peak years of his career and he's not bound to be short on suitors, with clubs such as Tottenham and Inter Milan all credited with holding an interest in his services. He's been in Portugal for 5 years and has developed significantly, becoming a fine box-to-box midfielder. His determination, stamina and work rate would make him an ideal fit for a Premier League club. He has 70 international caps to his name and has experience of winning the league with Porto, so he'll bring plenty to the table at whichever club he ends up next should he depart Portugal.

David Luiz

Current Club: Chelsea

Now in his second spell in West London with Chelsea, it looks like this summer David Luiz could finally depart for good. The Brazilian is something of a marmite character with followers of the Premier League and Blues supporters, with his erratic method of defending leading to the odd howler - but when he's at it he can be superb. He's played starring roles in the club winning both the Premier League (2016-17) and Champions League (2011-12) during his stint in West London and he even made the PFA Team of the year just 2 years ago, which proves he's more than capable. He's still holding out hope of a new contract but if he was to become available he could be an excellent signing for any side in Europe.

Daniel Sturridge

Current Club: Liverpool

Perhaps one of the biggest victims to injuries in recent seasons, Daniel Sturridge's time at Liverpool looks like it's drawing ever closer to its end. There's no doubting that when he's fully fit he's a superb finisher and goalscorer, but after years on the sidelines it looks like time has caught up with him which will more than likely mean Liverpool won't renew his deal before it expires. If he can get a decent run of games at a new club and stay fit he'll have an awful lot to offer as he has proven on a couple of occasions this season with big goals against PSG & Chelsea, but a move to another elite club like Liverpool looks incredibly unlikely.

Daniel Sturridge

Yacine Brahimi

Current Club: FC Porto

The second player from FC Porto to make our list and another one who we think is a very good player. Yacine Brahimi may not be known to many followers of the Premier League but the Algeria international has built quite the reputation for himself following his time in Spain with Granada and with Porto in Portugal. Comfortable playing as a #10 or on either flank, Brahimi's versatility coupled with his close control and creativity make him one of Porto's most important players and it's going to be a massive blow for them should he depart the club.
