On Friday, the 45th edition of the Ryder Cup takes place from Bethpage Black Golf Course in New York, as Europe look to retain the coveted prize following the dominant victory in Italy two years ago.
Europe extended their sequence to seven consecutive victories on home soil in this tournament, with a commanding 16.5-11.5 victory against their American counterparts. Europe's success was down to them leading 4-0 after the opening morning session on Friday, and by evening play, Europe had a commanding lead of 6.5 to 1.5.
This year, Europe will be returning with winning captain Luke Donald, who spearheads a team full of experience, most notably in the form of Rory McIlroy, who completed the illustrious Grand Slam with his Masters win this calendar year. Rookie Tommy Fleetwood secured his spot following an impressive showing at the OWGR in which he finished seventh, and by adding his first PGA Tour win at the Tour Championship in August.
Team USA are led by Keegan Bradley, given the failed attempt from Zach Johnson to secure the trophy two years ago, and Bradley's inclusion is seen as a clever ploy, since he missed out on the tournament two years ago in the selection process. Scottie Scheffler is undoubtedly the standout in this team, as the 29-year-old added the PGA Championship and the Open Championship to move within one trophy away from a career Grand Slam in the PGA Circuit.
