5 Championship Goalscorer Tips to Watch This Weekend - Gameweek 3

Latest News

Glenn Murray to score and Watford to win

It’s been a steady return to the Championship for Watford, after a win and a draw in their opening two games. The Hornets are one of the favourites to gain promotion back to the Premier League, and with the players at their disposal its understandable why. They come up against a Luton team who have had a good start to the season themselves, winning their opening two league games.

After a 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United in Carabao Cup, it may be time for Luton’s impressive start to come to an end. Nathan Jones wringed in the changes for the midweek tie, with nine changes to the side. Likewise, Vladimir Ivić made wholesale changes to Watford’s midweek cup tie – a 3-1 away defeat to Newport County – showing that Watford’s sights are set on gaining promotion back to the top tier.

The home side should have too much quality in their side for Luton in Saturday’s early kick-off though, with the likes of Joao Pedro, Christian Kabasele and Tom Cleverly in their ranks. Not to mention Ismaila Sarr and Troy Deeney, who could return from injury soon. We’ve gone for Glenn Murray to score in a Watford win, with odds of 2/1. The veteran striker has played in both league games for Ivic’s side so far, and could get off the mark against the Hatters in the competition that he scored 23 goals in last time he was in it, for Brighton in 2017.

Andre Ayew to score 2+

Wycombe have struggled in their first-ever Championship season so far, with two defeats in their opening two games. Their last league outing saw them annihilated 5-0 away to Blackburn Rovers. It’s hard to see Gareth Ainsworth’s side getting anything from their game on Saturday, as they welcome Swansea City to Adams Park.

The Swans will be hopeful of another top six finish this season and have started positively with a win away to Preston on the opening day, before a 0-0 stalemate at home to Birmingham in their second league game. It could be a hard game for Wycombe who have conceded six goals in their two league games so far.

Andre Ayew is the star striker for Swansea, after recording 15 league goals last season as the club’s top scorer. He will fancy his chances of opening his account for the season against Wycombe on Saturday, piling more misery on the Chairboys’ defence. The 30-year-old is 15/2 with Sky Bet to bag a brace or more.

Scott Sinclair to score first

Stoke City are without a goal and without a win in their first two league games. They face a tricky test away to Preston on Saturday with the home side looking to bounce back from the midweek cup defeat to Brighton.

Preston are also without a win in the league so far this season, after a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Swansea on the opening day before a good point away from home in the 2-2 at Norwich last time out in the league.

North End did the double over Stoke last season, with Alex Neil’s side just missing out on a play-off spot after spending a lot of the season in and around the top six. If they are to try and push for a play-off spot again this season, a first win of the season would be a good start at home to the Potters.

Former Manchester City and Swansea winger, Scott Sinclair, scored from the spot to open the scoring against Norwich last weekend and is 13/2 to find the opener again this weekend - click here to claim this bet in your bet slip.

Lukas Jutkiewicz to outscore the opposition

Birmingham City have had a good start to the season, with four points from their first to games against strong opposition. They welcome Rotherham to St Andrews on the weekend, as the visitors look to survive relegation following their promotion to second tier last season. The Blues’ somewhat surprising win over Brentford on the opening day was followed by a stalemate at the Liberty Stadium against Swansea. Their opponents on Saturday have managed a win against Wycombe as well as falling to a defeat against Millwall.

Aitor Karanka’s side are tipped by many to keep their decent start to the season going, and the form of Lukas Jutikiewicz could help them achieve that. The 6ft 1in target man has scored 14 goals in his last two Championship seasons with Birmingham and is likely to get the chance to open his account and lead the line for the Blues this weekend against the Millers.

Odds are 9/2 for Jutkiewicz to outscore Rotherham on Saturday.

Teemu Pukki to score and win

The big Sunday clash sees Bournemouth entertain Norwich at the Vitality Stadium, as two of the teams that were relegated from the Premier League meet. It’s a big tie for both sides, who are eager to return back to the top tier at the first time of asking. Both teams have started well and are unbeaten in the league after a draw and win in their opening games this season.

We’ve gone for the Canaries to get all three points in this game, with star man Teemu Pukki getting on the scoresheet. Norwich were unbeaten against the Cherries in the league last season, winning at home and drawing away. They have managed to keep most of their star players, such as top scorer Pukki and energetic winger Todd Cantwell as well as their manager Daniel Farke. Bournemouth on the other hand have sold some key players, such as Nathan Ake, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser. Eddie Howe also stepped down from his role as manager following their relegation, passing the reigns onto his assistant Jason Tindall.

Odds are 3/1 for Norwich to get the win with Pukki scoring. The Finnish striker already has a goal to his name this season, after 13 Premier League goals last season. Pukki managed a magnificent 29 goals in 2018/19 when Norwich stormed the Championship and won the title.
