5 Europa Conference League RO16 Tips - 17/3/22

Leicester will look to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League when they take on Rennes. The Foxes have a 2-0 aggregate lead following the result at the King Power Stadium last week, but the French outfit more than likely won’t go down without a fight.

Rennes are a good side, fourth in Ligue 1 and now just a point off second-placed Marseille in the French top-tier after a big 4-2 away win against Lyon on Sunday. Leicester followed up their first-leg win by falling to a 2-0 defeat at the Emirates Stadium against Arsenal on Sunday, leaving them 12th in the Premier League.

Rennes may just edge the game on Thursday between two of the strongest sides left in the competition, but if it will be enough to get them through to the next round and overcome the aggregate scoreline is another question.

Another of the favourites to go the whole way in the competition is Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

The Italian outfit managed a 1-0 away win to Vitesse in the first leg and will be aiming to ease past them again to make the next round.

Roma are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions, after a 1-1 draw at Udinese on Sunday, leaving Mourinho’s men seventh in Serie A – a point off the top five. Vitesse have now gone three games without a win in all competitions, after being held by Heracles in the Dutch Eredivisie on Sunday.

After keeping a clean sheet away from home in the first leg, Roma can see themselves through by repeating that feat again on Thursday.

Another team from the Netherlands, Feyenoord, are looking comfortable and have a 5-2 advantage heading into the second leg of their tie against Partizan Belgrade.

Feyenoord have now gone three games without defeat in all competitions, sitting third-place in the Eredivisie. Cyriel Dessers scored the second goal for Arne Slot’s side in the first leg, taking his tally to five goals in seven UECL appearances. He can improve that tally with a goal in what should be a comfortable game for Feyenoord.

Copenhagen and PSV produced an eight-goal thriller in the first leg as the teams played out a 4-4 draw. We can see another high-scoring affair between two attacking sides in the second leg.

The Danish Superliga leaders are on a run of six games without defeat, sitting five points clear after eight-straight wins in the league. The Lions have scored a whopping 12 goals across their last five games in all competitions.

PSV have gone ten games without defeat in all competitions, with a win away to Utrecht on Sunday keeping them just two points adrift of league leaders Ajax in the Eredivisie.

Both teams have shown their attacking prowess and with it all on the line, we could be in store for another goal-fest.

Slavia Prague can book their place in the quarter-finals if they avoid a shock result that would see LASK overturn the 4-1 deficit.

The Austrian outfit has slender hopes of making the next round but will have some belief following the 6-0 win over WSG Wattens in the Austrian Bundesliga play-off tie at the weekend.

Slavia Prague’s 1-0 upset defeat to Liberec in the Czech first division on Sunday was their first defeat in seven games in all competitions.

The 4-1 win wasn’t the first time Slavia have outscored the opposition in the knockout rounds of the UECL, after beating Fenerbahçe in the last round 3-2 in both the home and away legs. Another high-scoring game could be on the cards on Thursday.
