Arsenal vs Monaco Prediction

We are backing Arsenal to get back to winning ways after dropping points in the league at the weekend. The Gunners are unbeaten in their previous six games, with four wins from their last five in all competitions. They are unbeaten at home this season and have won their last two games at the Emirates in Europe.

Monaco will provide a tough test for the hosts, as they have won three of their last five away from home, though they come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat at Marseille in their last away game. Arsenal are more likely to score first in this game, having done so in five of their previous six, whilst goals are almost a certainty with over 2.5 goals occurring in four of their last five in all competitions – Arsenal 3-1 Monaco

Arsenal vs Monaco: Preview & Prediction

Arsenal host Monaco in the Champions League looking for a win that would strengthen their position in the top eight of the table.

Date: 11/12/24

Kick-off time: 20:00

Venue: Emirates Stadium

After five games, Arsenal sit in 7th place in the Champions League table following three wins, a draw and a defeat. They have 10 points, level with seven other teams, so anything but a win could see them fall out of the automatic knockout places. The Gunners have recovered from a dip in form a few weeks ago, and are now winners of four of their last five games in all competitions, including a huge 5-1 win at Sporting in their last European tie.

Monaco have also enjoyed a solid start to their Champions League campaign, as they are tied with their opponents on 10 points and sit just a place below them. The French side are second in Ligue 1 following a win at the weekend, and will be hoping to continue their strong domestic form in Europe. They were defeated in their last game at home to Benfica, but they picked up big wins against Barcelona, Red Star Belgrade and Bologna earlier in the competition.

Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded just twice in Europe so far, and four times in their last five games. The hosts have one of, if not the strongest defences in the tournament, headlined by centre-back pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba. Away from home, this may be a game of limited chances for Monaco, though they have netted 11 in their previous five in all competitions. If they are to threaten, it will likely come from Eliesse Ben Seghir and ex-Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun, who have combined for eight overall goals this season.

The home side have the pair of Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka to lean on, with both leading the way in the Premier League with five each and Europe with two. They should have confidence in breaching a Monaco defence which has conceded seven goals in five Champions League games and has kept one clean sheet in their last five.

These two sides have met just two times before. They played in the Champions League Round of 16 in the 14-15 season, with the pair winning a game each. Monaco won the first game 3-1 at the Emirates, with goals from Geoffrey Kondogbia, Dimitar Berbatov and Yannick Carrasco. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored a late consolation. Arsenal won the return leg 2-0 on the road, but were eliminated on away goals.

Where to Watch

Team News

Arsenal

Gabriel, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riccardo Calafiori all missed out at the weekend, so their availability for this game is in doubt. Ben White is out long-term, whilst Takehiro Tomiyasu has no return date.

Monaco

Krepin Diatta and Edan Diop are out with injuries that should not keep them out for too long, but they will not be available for this game. Wilfried Singo will serve a one-game suspension after he was shown red for two yellow cards in their last European game against Benfica.

Form Guide

Arsenal:

In their last five games, Arsenal have won four and drawn one. After a slight downturn in form, Arsenal are back on track with a solid stretch. They are unbeaten, with the first game of this run a comfortable 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest. Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey and Ethan Nwaneri were on the scoresheet.

A huge win in Europe saw them beat Sporting Lisbon 5-1 away from home. Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Magalhaes gave them a convincing lead at the break before Saka and Leandro Trossard completed the scoring in the second half. The Gunners’ impressive goalscoring continued as they netted five once more at West Ham. They won 5-2, racing into a 4-0 lead before the hosts threatened a comeback. However, another goal before half-time put the game to bed.

Manchester United visited the Emirates next, but Arsenal showcased their strength at corners with two set-piece goals from Jurrien Timber and William Saliba giving them a 2-0 win. Last time out they travelled to fellow Londoners Fulham, where they drew 1-1 after Saliba cancelled out an early opener from Raul Jimenez.

Monaco:

In their last five games, Monaco have won three and lost two. It has been a mixed stretch for Monaco as they have struggled to find consistency. However the first game of this run resulted in a victory as they won 3-1 away at Strasbourg. They fell behind in the first half, but scored three goals with 11 minutes to go through Eliesse Ben Seghir (x2) and George Ilenikhena.

They returned home to face Brest, winning 3-2. After taking a two-goal lead into the break, the visitors halved the deficit shortly after the restart. The pair exchanged goals once more in stoppage time with Monaco coming out on top. Attention shifted to European action as they took on Benfica. They were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline at home. The hosts took the lead twice but were pegged back on both occasions before a Zeki Amdouni winner with two minutes to go.

A trip to Marseille ended with a 2-1 defeat as they blew another lead. Aleksandr Golovin opened the scoring before Luis Henrique and Mason Greenwood turned it around. Their most recent game was at home to Toulouse. They won 2-0, with goals coming from Wilfried Singo and Breel Embolo in the second half.
