Bayern Munich vs. PSG - Prediction

This is an interesting game between two big names that have mostly underperformed in this competition so far. PSG have won only two of their last five games at home and have lost both of their last two Champions League games on the road, while Bayern have won six and drawn one of their seven home games this season.

Bayern have also really dominated the recent head-to-head meetings, winning four of the last five encounters, including all of the last three.

Both teams to score has occurred in two of both team's last four games, so we fancy a goal at both ends in this one too. Bayern Munich 2-1 PSG.

Bayern Munich vs. PSG: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

In what looks like one of the ties of the competition on paper so far this season, Bayern Munich take on PSG in the Champions League with both sides in need of a win.

          • Date: 26/11/2024
          • Kick-off time: 20:00
          • Location: Allianz Arena, Munich

Bayern Munich are currently 17th in the Champions League with six points from four games. The German giants have not had the kind of start they would've wanted to their Champions League campaign, and despite the fact they're flying in the Bundesliga, there are question marks over how far they can go in this competition. Losses away at Aston Villa and Barcelona and a narrow win over Benfica last time out have cast doubt over their credentials as potential winners, so they come into this game with a lot to prove.

Bayern are also three points outside of the places that guarantee automatic progression to the next round, so they need to start moving through the gears in this competition if they are to work themselves into a position where they're considered one of the favourites.

As we alluded to, Bayern are having few issues in the Bundesliga, where they sit top of the table, unbeaten and six points clear of Eintracht Frankfurt in second. Such dominance does not yet look like translating to this competition as of yet, but it's probably too early to draw any concrete conclusions. After all, this is Vincent Kompany's first taste of Champions League football as a manager so he still has a few hurdles to navigate.

Bayern's remaining fixtures in this competition are PSG at home, Shakhtar Donetsk away, Feyenoord away and Slovan Bratislava at home, so they have a very kind run-in. A win here is needed to prove a point as much as anything, but even if they fail to win, they should manage to secure automatic progression to the next round.

PSG, however, are in a much more uncertain position. The Parisians have had a nightmare start to this competition having won just one of four games, leaving them in 25th in the league table and outside of the playoff places.

There has long been a disparity between PSG's league dominance and their showings in the Champions League, but the contrast between their performances in Ligue 1 and their performances in Europe has been sharp this season. PSG have lost to Arsenal and Atlético Madrid while drawing with PSV and only beating Girona with an injury-time winner. Some of those fixtures aren't easy, but a team with PSG's resources should be pulling far more than four points from those fixtures.

After this, PSG's remaining fixtures are RB Salzburg away, Manchester City at home and Stuttgart away, so there's a very real chance that they'll have to contest a playoff to make it to the knockout stage of this competition. You'd still back them in that scenario, but they really do need a result here to get what has been a dreadful Champions League campaign back on track.

Bayern Munich vs. PSG - Form Guide

Bayern Munich are in good shape heading into this game with five wins from their last five games. A Harry Kane hat-trick saw them see off Augsburg 3-0 at the weekend, a result that followed a 1-0 win at St. Pauli thanks to a Jamal Musiala winner in the first half.

Those results followed a 1-0 win over Benfica, where Musiala again scored the only goal, and a 3-0 win over Union Berlin courtesy of a Harry Kane brace and a goal from Kinglsey Coman.

Prior to that, a hat-trick from Musiala and a Leroy Sané goal gave Vincent Kompany's men a 4-0 win over Mainz in the DFB Pokal.

PSG come into this one with four wins and one loss from their last five, with their latest outing a 3-0 win over Toulouse thanks to João Neves, Beraldo and Vitinha.

Before that, PSG beat Angers 4-2 through braces from Lee Kang-In and Bradley Barcola, which came after a 1-2 loss to Atlético Madrid, where Angel Correa scored a stoppage time winner for the Spanish club.

Other results in PSG's latest five-game stretch include a 1-0 win over Lens and a 3-0 win away at Marseille, with Neves, Beraldo and Barcola getting the goals.
