          AC Milan vs Liverpool Prediction

Liverpool should be the choice for this fixture, but will need to be wary of an AC Milan side who have found the net regularly against the Reds.

Liverpool has won their previous five games against AC Milan, with the Italian side failing to keep a clean sheet in their last seven against the side from England. Liverpool also haven't kept a clean sheet in their previous three against AC Milan. Over 2.5 goals have been scored in this fixture in five of the last seven, and the BTTS market has the same record.

The Reds have been the first to score in four of the previous five. Liverpool have won six of the last seven meetings against AC Milan. Mohamed Salah has scored in his two previous appearances against the Italian side.

We can’t look past Liverpool for this fixture. Despite their defeat against Nottingham Forest, Arne Slot’s side will be eager to rectify things with a significant result in Europe.

          AC Milan 1-3 Liverpool.

AC Milan vs Liverpool Preview & Prediction

The UEFA Champions League resumes for another campaign of highs and lows as teams battle to be crowned champions of Europe’s elite. Arne Slot takes his Liverpool side to Milan for a repeat of two classic finals in the UEFA Champions League.

          Date: 17/09/2024
          Location: Stadio San Siro
          Kick-Off: 8 pm

The new UEFA Champions League format provides an exciting concept for this season's competition. The competition is now in a 36-team format, in which the top eight clubs automatically qualify for the knockout phase, with teams ranked from ninth to 24th competing in a two-legged play-off fixture to be second-seeded and face the teams already qualified. From there, the competition will resume with the normal knockout phase from previous years. Each team is now required to play eight games instead of six.

These two sides have a storied history in the UEFA Champions League, having both played each other in two finals in three years in the mid-noughties. The first final in 2005 is regarded as one of the best finals in the competition’s history. AC Milan were 3-0 up at half-time thanks to a Paolo Maldini goal and a brace from Hernan Crespo. Liverpool then produced one of the greatest comebacks of all time, led by mercurial captain Steven Gerrard, with a header past Dida to begin proceedings. Two quick goals from Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso restored parity for the Reds, who held out for a penalty shootout. Jerzy Dudek was the hero, saving Andriy Shevchenko’s penalty to return the trophy to Merseyside.

Two years later, Carlo Ancelotti’s side, at the time, brought a measured sense of revenge for the Rossoneri. Reaching the ever latter stages of the game, AC Milan secured the victory thanks to two goals from Filippo Inzhagi which had taken the game away from Liverpool and Rafa Benitez. A late goal from Dirk Kuyt did nothing to spoil Milan’s party celebrations that day.

Milan, this season, has made an auspicious start, with only one win from four games. However, their recent victory over Venezia should give Paulo Fonseca confidence heading into this prominent fixture against Liverpool. Arne Slot has the impossible task of filling the void left by Juergen Klopp. Under his tenure so far this season, Slot has led his Liverpool side to three wins from four, including an impressive 3-0 victory over rivals Manchester United. Liverpool did suffer their first defeat under Slot against Nottingham Forest.

          Form Guide

The home side are unbeaten at the San Siro so far this season after two games played, with four points from a possible six in Serie A. Milan have scored six and conceded two this season at home, with their only defeat falling on their travels. Milan have averaged three goals at home per game this season and have only conceded one per game with a 50% clean sheet rate. Their previous game was a 4-0 win over Venezia.

Last season, Milan recorded an impressive home record, having only lost three games at the San Siro and recording 12 victories and four draws. Milan scored a point average of 2.11 per game, scoring 38 and conceding 17. Milan have been unbeaten at home in their previous seven, with four wins and three draws. The home side are unbeaten in their last four competitive home fixtures.

Liverpool, as mentioned, has the better record against Milan, having won six of the previous seven meetings, with the only defeat in the 2007 UEFA Champions League final. Having won the last five meetings between the two teams, Liverpool have also won the last meeting between the two sides at the San Siro. The two sides met in 2021, where Divock Origi and Mohamed Salah were the scorers for Klopp’s Liverpool that day.

Liverpool are coming into this game after a defeat against Nottingham Forest, although away from home, they’ve been superb. Liverpool’s first away game saw them dispatch Ipswich Town with goals from Salah and Diogo Jota. Their second away fixture, was a superb showing for Arne Slot, as a brace from Luis Diaz and a goal from Mohamed Salah humbled a disjointed Manchester United side.
