Young Boys vs Aston Villa Prediction

The Villans have begun the season in superb form coming off an impressive 3-2 comeback victory vs Everton. Winning three of their first four games so far this season, Aston Villa have performed consistently away from home so far this season, winning both of their away games.

Young Boys have struggled in the beginning of their campaign in the Swiss Super League failing to win a game in the first 6 games of the league. Home form has also been a concern for the Swiss side having only won once at home in the last 5 games at the Stadion Wankdorf.

In the three wins for Unai Emery’s side, has seen both teams find the scoresheet with Aston Villa averaging 1.75 goals scored & conceding 1.5 Goals on average so far. The same can’t be said for Young Boys who have only averaged 1.17 goals whilst conceding 2.33 in the process - Young Boys 1-2 Aston Villa.

Young Boys vs Aston Villa Preview & Prediction

Aston Villa travel to Bern, Switzerland to take on Young Boys to begin their Champions League campaign.

            Date: 17/09/2021

            Kick Off: 17:45

            Venue: Stadion Wankdorf

The return of Champions League football is on the menu this season for Villa after a 41-year absence, which was named the European Cup when they last competed in the competition. The Villans finished 4th last season whilst also competing in the Europa Conference League in which they reached the semi-finals.

Unai Emery’s side claimed their 3rd win of the season in an enthralling 3-2 victory against a struggling Everton team who were 2-0 up after 27 minutes. Aston Villa will travel to the Stadion Wankdorf to face Young Boys who are no strangers to European football in recent years, having progressed through the Champions League Qualifying rounds for the fourth time in six years.

It hasn’t been plain sailing for Young Boys this season however. The Swiss champions have made a terrible start to the new season failing to win a single game in six matches in the Swiss Super League, meaning that home form has been an added concern to the Swiss side.

Young Boys poses attacking threats in Silvere Ganvoula who has already contributed 3 goals in the league for YB and Joël Monteiro who was the clubs top goalscorer last season with 12 goals whilst also scoring 2 goals in their Champions League Qualifying campaign this season.

Aston Villa have bolstered their side ahead of this season with statement signing Amadou Onana who has already scored two goals in his first four games in the Premier League. Champions League finalist Ian Maatsen also joined the club while last season’s signing Morgan Rogers, has proven to be a shrewd signing by Unai Emery who has caught the eye of many for his all round performances in his first four games.

These two sides have never met each other previously, however Young Boys have struggled against English clubs both home and away with their only victory in their last 11 fixtures against English clubs coming against Manchester United in their 2021 Champions League meeting. In five of the previous seven games for BSC Young Boys, both teams found the scoresheet, with Aston Villa also failing to keep a clean sheet in their last nine.

            Form Guide

            Young Boys

Young Boys’ most recent win came against third division Vevey-Sports where they came out as 4-2 winners in the last 32 of the Swiss Cup on Saturday.

Prior to their last 32 Swiss Cup victory, they were winners in an eye-catching 10-0 win against fifth tier Swiss side FC Printse-Nendaz. After this dominant performance, attention turned to their Champions League play off legs against Galatasaray. In the first leg, Young Boys took an early lead, adding their second at the end of the first half. Galatasaray recovered a two goal deficit through Michy Batshuayi, until Abdülkerim Bardakçı received his second yellow conceding a penalty. Filip Ugrinic converted the penalty giving Young Boys the 3-2 victory at home.

The second leg was a tightly contested match with late drama being the theme for this leg. Alan Virginius was the goalscorer in the 87 minute to grab the winner for YB and advance onto this year’s Champions League competition. Days later, attention turned back to the league in which Young Boys had to settle for a draw against Lausanne, where defender Tanguy Zoukrou was sent off, making for a difficult last 15 minutes of their game and their winless run in the league continue.

            Aston Villa

Aston Villa has won 3 of their last 4 games starting off the season strongly in a 1-2 win against West Ham in their first game of the season, with new signing Amoudou Onana opening the scoring before Matty Cash conceded a penalty, in which Lucas Paqueta converted. Jhon Duran later converted for Aston Villa’s second of the game with 10 minutes to go to secure the win.

Their first home game of the season saw them take on title contenders Arsenal where they were defeated by two goals to nil. Their next game saw them get back on track against newly promoted Leicester City winning 1-2.

A home game followed against Everton which seemed to be a straightforward game for Villa, however Everton shocked the favourites by scoring 2 goals in 27 minutes. Talisman Ollie Watkins scored a brace to bring the home side back in the game before an early goal of the season contender by Jhon Duran left everyone in awe, ultimately giving Villa the victory.
