5 EFL Goalscorer Tips - 3/9/22

Norwich have made a great start to this season’s Championship, as they look set to battle it out with the likes of Sheffield United, Burnley and Watford in the race for Premier League promotion.

The Canaries are currently second in the table with four wins out of their last five, with their only defeat coming against Hull. In stark contrast, their opponents sit rock bottom with no wins so far this season, and they come into the clash having lost their last three matches in all competitions.

Coventry’s poor form looks set to continue with this clash against high-flying Norwich, and we are backing two of the Canaries’ dangermen to bag in this game. Josh Sargent already has four goals to his name this season, and while Teemu Pukki has made a slower start to the season with no goals so far in six appearances, this match presents him with a chance to get off the mark.

Two sides currently in the top eight clash this Saturday, with fifth-place Blackburn hosting in-form seventh-place Bristol City at Ewood Park. The hosts are on a run of one win in their last four, whereas the visitors have four wins from their last five league outings.

Both sides possess top-quality goalscorers, with Chilean forward Ben Brereton Diaz the main man for Rovers. He scored 22 goals last season, and has three to his name so far this season - he is always a threat.

For Bristol City, they have players such as Andreas Weimann and Tommy Conway, who both have three goals to their name as well this season. With nine goals between the trio so far this season, they are clearly the dangermen for their sides, and that is why we can see them scoring in this game.

Accrington Stanley’s Sean McConville has made a seriously impressive start to the new league campaign, with three goals and one assist in the five matches he has played.

He is already on track to smash his goal tally from the previous two seasons combined (5 goals). One thing of note about all of McConville’s goals this season is that they have all come in the second half of matches he has played in.

His first came in the 69th minute against Charlton on the opening day, his second came in the 57th minute of a pulsating 4-4 draw with Burton, and his last came 12 minutes from time in Accrington’s clash with MK Dons two weeks ago. McConville has shown he is a player who can make a serious impact on a game with the timings of his goals, and that is why we are backing him to score late on in this fixture.

After a thrilling 4-3 win over Burton in the last set of fixtures, Cambridge will host another lower-table side at home in Lincoln City.

The Imps are currently 18th with just one win so far this season. This will give confidence to a Cambridge side who have won three of their opening six matches, with one of those wins a hard-fought 2-1 over fellow promotion chasers Exeter.

We think that Joe Ironside will score for Cambridge in this one - the Englishman scored 13 in what was an impressive 21/22 season from him, but he has made a slower start this season, with just one goal to his name so far.

But, because of Ironside's record against this opposition - he scored twice in the two meetings between these sides last season, the first being a consolation in a 5-1 defeat in September, before scoring a stoppage-time winner in the return fixture in January - we think this match provides him with the opportunity to add to his tally and kickstart his season.

Our final tip involves two sides who are currently sat at the lower end of the League Two table, Grimsby and Newport.

Just a point separates the two in the standings, with Grimsby in 14th on eight points and their opponents two places behind in 16th on seven points.

Grimsby will be relatively happy with their start to the new campaign after their promotion last season, whereas the hosts, who just missed out on a place in the top ten last season, will be unhappy with their start.

But, in this match, we are predicting Newport's star man Omar Bogle to score and lead his side to a win. Bogle already has five goals this season, scoring said five in just his last four league games. The forward is on red hot form, and so are Newport (four wins from six in all competitions), so we expect that form to continue going into this match, with Bogle to score and help secure three points for his side.
