The San Siro will be the venue of this top-of-the-league clash between Inter Milan and Juventus. The two sides occupy first and second place in the standings in what looks to be a two-way battle for the title.
Inter currently sit top, a point and place above Juventus following their 1-0 victory over Fiorentina on Sunday night. They also have a game in hand on both Juventus and third-place AC Milan, who are eight points further back. This means that the Nerazzurri are firmly in control of the title race and can further tighten their grip at the summit with another three points against the Old Lady.
A win for Juventus makes things even more interesting, as this would see them regain top spot by two points. With the quality of football and results that both sides are displaying, every game is starting to feel like a must-win, and either team are ready to take advantage should the other slip up.
Simone Inzaghi’s side have by far the league’s best attack, scoring 49 goals in 20 games. They also boast the most stubborn defence, only conceding 10 so far. This is in large part thanks to the sensational form of striker Lautaro Martinez, who has found the back of the net 19 times in the league. This puts him way out in front of the goal-scoring charts, whilst winger Hakan Çalhanoglu is also in the top five with nine goals. Juventus have 36 goals, with 13 conceded, making them the league’s second-best defence. Dusan Vlahovic leads the way for them with 12 goals. Both attacks will have to be at their clinical best to get past these strong backlines.
Nothing could split the sides in their meeting earlier this season in November, which perhaps sums up the story of this title race. The 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium saw the star strikers both get on the scoresheet. Vlahovic opened the scoring for the home side before Martinez equalised six minutes later.
In the last five seasons, Inter Milan and Juventus have met nine times in the league, with the latter coming out on top on five occasions. This includes a 1-0 victory at the San Siro last season in which Filip Kostic scored the winner midway through the first half. Inter have not been victorious since April 2022, when Calhanoglu’s seventh-minute penalty ended up being the difference between the teams.
