Juventus vs Genoa Prediction & Betting Tips

Juventus host Genoa in the Serie A, desperate for three points to maintain or improve their standing in the table.

        Date: 17/03/24

        Kick-off time: 11:30

        Venue: Allianz Stadium

Poor recent form has seen Juventus’ title hopes all but disappear as they now trail league leaders Inter Milan by 17 points. Their slide has seen them drop down to third, behind AC Milan, who they are one point behind. Victory this weekend could allow them to overtake Milan or at least keep pace with them. Any dropped points could push them further back but also open the door for Bologna in fourth to close the gap. Bologna are currently seven points behind.

Genoa, in contrast, are in 12th, with no realistic hopes of a European chase, and also in no danger of being dragged into a relegation battle. They are five points behind Torino, who are above them, and seven ahead of Verona, who are directly below. Therefore, they are under little pressure which could help them cause Juventus some issues.

The visitors have scored at least one goal in each of their last five games, so will be hopeful of finding the net against a defence who have conceded at least two in their last four. Albert Gudmundsson will be the main goal threat, as he leads the way with 10 goals. Dusan Vlahovic has 15, and he will also be looking to add to that tally.

In the last six league meetings, Juventus have been dominant, winning four. However, they are winless in the last two, with Genoa winning one. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended in a 1-1 draw, in which Gudmundsson’s goal cancelled out Federico Chiesa’s first-half penalty.

        Form Guide

        Juventus

In their last five games, Juventus have won one, drawn two and lost two. Juventus are enduring a terrible run of form which has seen their title hopes quickly disappear. The stretch began with a 1-0 home defeat to Udinese in which Lautaro Giannetti scored a 25th-minute winner. Juventus completely dominated possession, but could not find the back of the net from six shots on target. Their winless run continued with a 2-2 draw at Verona, though it could have been worse. Despite their opponent’s low position in the table, they may have seen this as a point gained due to the fact they had to come from behind twice. Dusan Vlahovic and Adrien Rabiot were the goalscorers.

They finally got the win they needed against Frosinone, but they did so right at the death. Vlahovic scored a third-minute opener, but the visitors soon turned the game around. The lead did not last long, however, as Vlahovic grabbed a second to tie it up at 2-2. With the game headed for a draw, Daniele Rugani stepped up in the fifth minute of stoppage time to steal all three points. They were unable to build on this win as they lost the next one to Napoli, highlighting their inconsistencies. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring and they held the lead until the 81st minute when Federico Chiesa equalised. Juve could not see the game out as Giacomo Raspadori netted a late winner.

Last time out saw them host Atalanta, which ended 2-2. Teun Koopmeiners converted an excellent set-piece routine to put the visitors a goal up. The home side turned it around with two goals in quick succession, but the Juve lead lasted just five minutes as Koopmeiners scored his second of the game to ensure the points were shared.

        Genoa

In their last five games, Genoa have won one, drawn one and lost three. They have endured a very rough run of form, dropping many points. Their last game came at home to Monza, in which they lost 3-2. Monza took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Matteo Pessina and Dany Mota. However, Genoa were able to get the game back to 2-2 with one strike shortly after the restart from Albert Gudmundsson, before another by Vitinha mid-way through the half. Unfortunately for the hosts, Daniel Maldini scored a winner with 11 minutes remaining.

This followed a tough trip to Inter Milan, though they only narrowly lost 2-1. They fell two goals behind before the break, but managed to pull one back in the 54th minute. Ultimately, the comeback fell short as they were unable to find an equaliser. Their only win in this period was at home to Udinese. Matteo Retegui and Mattia Bani scored twice in the space of four minutes to give them a commanding lead at half-time. This position was only strengthened when Udinese were reduced to ten men soon after. They were able to comfortably see out the rest of the game.

A trip to Napoli was minutes away from ending in victory, but Cyril Ngonge scored at the death to deny Genoa maximum points. Morten Fredrup had given them the lead earlier in the half. The first game of this period was a heavy 4-1 loss at home to Atalanta. After going in at half-time down one goal, they restored parity through Ruslan Malinovskyi though this was brief as Atalanta quickly regained their lead before adding a further two strikes.
