Lazio vs Juventus Prediction & Betting Tips

Lazio host a Juventus side hoping for victory to maintain their position in the top four, and close the gap on the teams above them.

            Date: 30/03/24

            Kick-off time: 17:00

            Venue: Stadio Olimpico

The hosts recently parted ways with manager Maurizio Sarri, who resigned earlier this month. The Italian stepped down after five losses in six games, which had left them ninth in the table and eliminated from the Champions League. They have played just once since his departure, but it was a 3-2 victory away at Frosinone. This moved them to 43 points, eight off fifth, which makes qualifying for one of the top two European competitions a tough task with just nine games to go. Victory would just about keep them in the hunt, but a loss would effectively end their chances.

Juventus are in third, their recent poor form allowing AC Milan to jump ahead of them into second. The visitors have won just once in their last five and are now three points behind Milan. They are eight clear of Roma, who are fifth, but a defeat this weekend would leave them nervously looking over their shoulder. A win would strengthen their grip on third and potentially take advantage of any dropped points by Milan.

Dusan Vlahovic is Juve’s top scorer this season with 15 goals, but he will be missing through suspension, meaning their goal threat has been significantly reduced. Federico Chiesa is second, but he has just seven goals. Lazio have not kept a clean sheet in their last five, so it could present an opportunity for other attackers to provide some goal involvements.

Since 2022, these two teams have met five times in all competitions. Juventus have enjoyed the better record, winning three to Lazio’s one. The reverse fixture earlier this season also ended in their favour as they won 3-1 at home. Vlahovic opened the scoring before the lead was doubled by Chiesa. Luis Alberto halved the deficit, but Vlahovic added his second to give them a comfortable advantage.

            Form Guide

In their last five games, Lazio have won one and lost four. It has been a difficult stretch for Lazio, who had parted ways with manager Maurizio Sarri in the middle of this run. It started with defeat at Fiorentina, in which they lost 2-1. Luis Alberto gave them the lead, but this was erased in eight second half minutes, as the hosts scored twice to take victory.

This preceded another loss, this time at home to AC Milan. It was a very narrow defeat as Noah Okafor’s 88th minute strike condemned them to zero points. However, this did not tell the entire story, as Lazio ended the game with eight men. In the 57th minute, Luca Pellegrini saw red before Adam Marusic and Matteo Guendouzi were dismissed deep into stoppage time.

Attention then shifted to European action, as they took on Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Round of 16 Champions League tie. They had come into this one with a 1-0 advantage, following their surprise win at home. However, normal service was resumed as Bayern comfortably eliminated them with a 3-0 victory. They could not shake off this disappointment as they fell 2-1 at home to Udinese in their return to league action. The visitors took the lead shortly after the restart, but Lazio responded immediately with an own goal. It was not level for long though, as Oier Zarraga scored the winner four minutes later.

They finally picked up a win in their most recent outing, a 3-2 victory at Frosinone. The hosts took an early lead, but Lazio hit back with goals from Mattia Zaccagni and Valentin Castellanos (x2) to go up 3-1. Walid Cheddira pulled one back, but the comeback fell short.

In their last five games, Juventus have won one, lost one and drawn three. It has been a rough stretch for a team who was in the hunt for the title not too long ago. Many dropped points has seen them fall away in the table. This run began with a 2-2 draw at Verona, in which they had to come from behind twice to salvage a point.

The only win in this period came at home to Frosinone, but the 3-2 victory was not short of dramatics. It was a back and forth game, as both teams held a lead at some point. Dusan Vlahovic broke the deadlock after just three minutes, but this advantage was erased 10 minutes later by Walid Cheddira. Frosinone then went in front through Marco Brescianini before the half hour mark, though this was cancelled out by another Vlahovic strike. The score remained the same until the fifth minute of second half stoppage time, when Daniele Rugani stepped up to convert and snatch all three points at the death.

Juventus could not continue this winning momentum as they fell to a 2-1 loss at Napoli. The hosts went ahead through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia just before half-time. Federico Chiesa equalised with nine minutes to go, but as Juve thought they were leaving with a point, Giacomo Raspadori netted the winner. The search for another win continued as they dropped more points at home to Atalanta. Once again they fell behind, but recovered to take the lead in the second half. Atalanta then found a leveller of their own to draw 2-2. Their most recent outing was a 0-0 home game against Genoa. In addition to failing to find the breakthrough, they were dealt another huge blow as Vlahovic was dismissed at the death.
