Torino vs Milan: Preview & Prediction

Both Torino and AC Milan will be hoping to finish the season strongly as the two come head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

          Date: 18/05/2024

          Location: Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino

          Kick-Off: 19: 45 PM

The home side still has a potential European place to compete for with two games left, however, their chances are slim on paper and would require a unique set of results to fall in their favour. Torino are one point behind eighth-placed Napoli and could move ahead of them with a win over AC Milan. The unfortunate notion for both Napoli and Torino is that Fiorentina in ninth place have two games in hand over both sides.

If Fiorentina won both of their games in hand, Torino would have no chance of overtaking them.

AC Milan has secured UEFA Champions League football next season following their second-place finish in the league. Milan can’t be overtaken in the league as they are currently 18 points behind their city rivals Inter Milan.

In the most recent league meeting between the two sides, Milan were 4-1 winners over Torino at the San Siro.

          Milan Team News

Mike Maignan and Rubel Loftus-Cheek are both unavailable for the game against Torino. AC Milan have no suspension concerns.

          Recent Form

The recent history between the two teams suggests that the visitors are slight favourites heading into this game Torino. AC Milan have won three out of the last five league games between the teams – four from six games in all competitions since the two sides met in the Coppa Italia.

This fixture has provided a goal average of 2.51 goals between the two sides. In the last 20 meetings between the two sides, AC Milan has had a far superior form between the two teams. Milan has won 11, drawn five and lost the remaining four.

When the game is played at the Stadio Olimpico, Milan doesn’t have a particularly great record when facing their visitors. Milan have won only once in their last six visits with Torino winning three of those six games. Interestingly, despite the struggles at the Stadio Olimpico, Milan’s most recent win away from home at Torino was an emphatic one, to say the least.

Milan’s previous win over Torino was a 7-0 demolition for the away side. Milan was superb that day for obvious reasons with Ante Rebic scoring three. Theo Hernandez was on hand to score a brace along with goals from Brahim Diaz and Frank Kessie.

The most recent league meeting at the Stadio Olimpico between the two teams resulted in a 2-1 win for Torino. Koffi Djidji opened the scoring for the hosts in the 35th minute and merely two minutes later Aleksei Miranchuk doubled the hosts' advantage. Junior Messias grabbed a late consolation for Milan in the 67th minute as Torino held on for the win.

The last ten meetings between the two sides have produced five dismissals. Milan have been the more ill-disciplined team between the two, having received four red cards to Torino’s one. There hasn’t been a dismissal in this fixture in the last three meetings.

Torino’s home form has contributed a large portion of their team’s success this season. Torino have played 18 games at the Stadio Olimpico, having won seven, drawn nine and lost only twice this season. Torino have averaged 1.67 points at home this season, although their recent home record has been less than desirable.

The home side are unbeaten in their last five home games, although they’ve only managed one win in that time and drawn the remaining four. Interestingly, Torino has kept five clean sheets in those five games, although they’ve only scored one goal.

In their most recent home victory, Torino beat Monza by a single goal. A second-half goal from Antonio Sarabia secured Torino’s seventh league victory at the Stadio Olimpico. Another clean sheet recorded for Torino brings them an overall record of 72% when it comes to clean sheets this season.

Torino’s overall form certainly needs improving. The home side hasn’t won in their last five league games, with the most recent league victory being the game against Monza. Duvan Zapata is the top scorer for Torino this season with 12 goals in Serie A. The former Atalanta striker averages a goal contribution every 234 minutes.

AC Milan’s away form this season has been nothing short of superb across the 18 league games played away from the San Siro this season. The Rossoneri have won ten games, drawn five and lost three of their away games this season. In recent form, they’re unbeaten in their last five away games, having won three and drawn only twice.

AC Milan has averaged a 1.94-point per game average this season and has won 56% of their away games in general. Despite their record, have conceded 1.61 goals per game away from home this season and have kept a 28% clean sheet record this season.

Milan’s most recent league game was a comfortable one for the away side. Milan beat Cagliari 5-1 thanks to goals from Ismael Bennacer, Tijjani Reijnders, Rafael Leao and a brace from Christian Pulisic. Their recent away fixture was a goalless draw against Juventus, with their most recent away win being against Fiorentina in a 2-1 win.

Rafael Leao has been in superb form for the away side this season. The Portuguese international has 27 goal contributions in 46 games this season for club and country.
