13:25 - Newbury - Kalpana

A high-quality afternoon of ITV Racing kicks off with the Group Three Aston Park Stakes. Kalpana could prove very hard to beat on her return for the Andrew Balding and Colin Keane combination.

She has run in better races on return with credit, including when third behind Los Angeles in last season’s Group One Tattersalls Gold Cup.

High quality over this trip, winning at Ascot at the end of last year and within a length of Calandagan in the Group One King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Yard in form, and she is clearly the one to beat.

14:00 - Newbury - Allaire

A trappy Listed Stud Fillies’ Trial Stakes is up next, and it could once again be worthwhile to side with the in-form Andrew Balding yard. Allaire looked green on her reappearance over course and distance when six lengths second behind I’m The One.

Winner subsequently chased home Amelia Earhart at Chester. Form looks solid, and Oisin Murphy retains the ride. Wide-open contest, but she is the balance play with a fitness advantage on her side.

14:35 - Newbury - Zeus Olympios

The feature from Newbury is a fascinating renewal of the Group One Lockinge Stakes, run over a mile. Horses aged four, and those with official records of 114 or higher have excellent records.

It could be worth forgiving Zeus Olympios for his return run in the Group Two Bet365 Mile, when finishing a tired third. Should be primed to compete at his highest level on his second start this season.

Clifford Lee being back aboard is a positive, as the rider boasts a perfect record aboard the son of Night of Thunder.

14:50 - Newmarket - Silver Ghost

The first of two races from Newmarket comes in the form of a trappy-looking handicap over seven furlongs. Emma Lavelle-trained Silver Ghost could be of interest after an eye-catching third over course and distance at the start of the month.

She dwelt at the start of that race, but ran on incredibly eye-catching in the final stages. Should be further improvement on the cards for the four-year-old with that recent run under her belt. Has winning experience over course and distance, which is a positive.

15:10 - Newbury - Song Of The Clyde

Newbury’s next race is the Listed Carnarvon Stakes over six furlongs. Song Of The Clyde is of serious interest for the Clive Cox yard. Poorly drawn at Newmarket on return, when only beaten two lengths by Sovereign Spell, who looked extremely well handicapped.

Took a major step forward after reappearance last year, winning at Chester before finishing a close second over course and distance behind Egoli in a novice stakes. Should give a good run at an each-way price

15:27 - Newmarket - Sixtygeesbaby

ITV’s second race from Newmarket is a handicap over six furlongs. Sixtygeesbaby is a runner from the David O’Meara yard.

The four-year-old has been running consistently this season, including when not beaten far at Pontefract at the end of April.

A return to Newmarket could lead to further improvement, having shown plenty of ability at the track previously, including when a head second over course and distance last April.

15:45 - Newbury - Sahara King

The big betting race of the day from Newbury is the London Gold Cup, run by horses aged three over a mile and two furlongs.

Horses carrying 9-5 or less and holding official ratings between 84 and 95 have excelled. Crucially, horses with experience, but not a win over the trip, have won nine of the last eleven. Sahara King makes plenty of appeal for the Richard Hannon yard.

The selection ticks all of the trend boxes, and he only finished a length behind subsequent Lingfield Derby Trial winner Maltese Cross on return over course and distance. Plenty to like.
