13:25 - Goodwood - Startled

A busy afternoon of racing on ITV kicks off with the Class 2 Harroways Handicap. Low draws typically excel over seven furlongs, meaning that Startled could still be leniently handicapped based on his efforts this season.

The Richard Hughes runner has won impressively on back-to-back starts since being stepped up to seven furlongs, and was an impressive winner at York last week when beating Daydreama by over a length. In-form Saffie Osborne retains the ride.

13:45 - Haydock - Wemightakedlongway

ITV’s first race from Haydock on Saturday is the Listed Hedge of Oak Stakes. Four-year-olds have a very strong record, so it could be worth chancing in-form Joseph O’Brien’s Wemightakedlongway.

The Irish raider has twice from eleven career starts, and is clear on RPRs. Unsuited by testing ground at Cork on return, and the son of Australia was tested at the top level last season when fourth in France, second in the Group One Irish Oaks, and sixth behind Kalpana in the Group One Champions Fillies’ and Mares’.

Drops back in class, and should be ready to fire on her second start this year, just as she did last season.

14:00 - Goodwood - Saxon Street

The Listed Cocked Hat Stakes is next up from Goodwood, with a distance of a mile and three being covered. Saxon Street should prove hard to beat on these terms, despite carrying a penalty for his dominant win in the Listed Blue Riband Stakes at Epsom last time.

The son of Saxon Warrior looks like a star to keep tabs on over this distance this season, and represents the red-hot John & Thady Gosden yard. Notably holds plenty of big race entries (Group One Derby, Group One Coral-Eclipse, Group One Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe).

14:20 - Haydock - Langstone

One of the most competitive betting races of the day is next up from Haydock, as a mile will be covered in the Silver Bowl Handicap. Recent winners have carried over 9st. Therefore, the market leaders could be vulnerable. Langstone may be of interest at a bigger price for Clive Cox.

Three-year-old has won on back-to-back starts this season, and looks on a lenient mark based on his striking effort on turf debut at Doncaster. With a recent win on the all-weather at Kempton under his belt, he could have been laid out for this.

14:40 - York - Vintage Clarets

York joins the ITV party at 14:40, with a competitive handicap over five furlongs. Vintage Clarets is a previous course and distance winner, and performed admirably on two starts at the track last year when not beaten far.

Has run below his best on two starts this season, but has dropped to a very workable mark. Wasn’t seen to best effect last time when dropped out at Chester and finishing four lengths behind Roman Dragon. Each-way chance on his return to York.

14:58 - Haydock - Five Ways

The action heats up, as the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes will see the field cover a distance of six furlongs. Venetian Sun is back in action after her disappointing run in the Group One 2,000 Guineas.

Five Ways could have needed his return run when seventh behind Night Raider at Newmarket. Previously won the Group Three Sirenia Stakes at Kempton, and has won impressively on the turf at Salisbury.

Needs to step up following his return run, but the return to six furlongs should suit. Jason Watson retains the ride on the Andrew Balding runner.

15:15 - York - Miss Alpilles

The big race from York on Saturday is the Group Three Bronte Cup Fillies’ Stakes. Danielle could be vulnerable on her return to action, especially considering that five of the last seven winners have won after a reappearance.

Therefore, Miss Alpilles could be best placed to land the spoils. The five-year-old is an out-and-out stayer, having won dominantly at Newmarket over two miles at the end of last season. Returned with a strong effort this term, finishing third behind Sweet William in the Group Three Sagaro Stakes.

Has won over this distance, and this Sea The Stars mare should be staying on better than most in the closing stages.

15:30 - Haydock - Jm Jungle

The feature from Haydock on Saturday is the Group Two Temple Stakes, run over five furlongs. This is another trappy sprint where cases can be made for many.

Jm Jungle could be an interesting contender after running back to form when fourth on return at Newmarket. The six-year-old is a previous course and distance winner, and he is well drawn to play a part on these terms this weekend.

15:40 - Curragh - Gstaad

The big Group One on Saturday comes from Ireland, as a field of ten contests the Irish 2,000 Guineas. However, everything in here needs to improve to get close to Gstaad, who was last seen finishing second in the Group One 2,000 Guineas, with himself and the winner pulling miles clear of the field.

Aidan O’Brien has won this a record 12 times. Proven at the highest level after winning the Group One Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at the end of last season. Hard to oppose.

16:05 - Haydock - Hermetic

The final race on ITV this Saturday is a marathon two-mile handicap from Haydock. Hermetic could provide more upside than most.

The four-year-old for Ian Williams has won twice from five career starts, and he was an eye-catcher on stable and British debut at York at the start of the month when not beaten far by Master Builder. Excelled over two miles during his time in France, including when winning over two miles at Le Mans.
