13:50 - York - Miss Kodi

ITV’s coverage of the second day of the York Ebor Festival kicks off with the Group Two Lowther Stakes.

Horses toward the top of the betting have an excellent record in the race, with five of the last six editions won by one of the top three in the market. However, at an each-way price, Miss Kodi could be of interest.

The Kodi Bear filly was an excellent winner on good to soft ground at Chpstow in June, beating the field by seven lengths. She handled quicker ground when fifth, and was beaten under two lengths in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes at Royal Ascot.

That has been a key race in finding leading contenders for the Lowther, with three of the last 12 winners having also contested that juvenile race at the Royal meetings.

14:25 - York - Pride Of Toledo

Next up is the ultra-competitive Harry’s Half Million by Goffs for juveniles over a distance of six furlongs. Clive Cox has won the last three editions of the race, meaning that his runners should be respected this week.

Pride Of Taledo could be the most interesting at the prices. After running green on debut, he was more professional at Salisbury on his latest start, streaking clear of the four-runner field to win by just under four lengths from Sierra Belle.

The yard won this race with their second string in 2024.

15:00 - York - Checkandchallenge

Next up is the Kevin Sinfield 7 in & Grand Finale Handicap, which will be run over a distance of a mile. Previous York experience is a must in this race, with half of the 12 having previously run at the track.

Checkandchallenge ran back to form on his previous effort, finishing third of 13 in a competitive handicap at York. His runs have been going under the radar this season, including when finishing within four lengths of the winners over a mile at Ascot and Newbury.

Tends to go well at the track, including when within a length of See The Fire in the Group Three Strensall in 2024. Long winless run dates back to November 2023, but that does ensure that he is on a very eye-catching market this week.

15:35 - York - Johanna Walsh

The feature on Day Two of the York Ebor Festival is the Group One Yorkshire Oaks. Kalpana will be very hard to beat if she replicates her effort from Ascot last time out, but with big targets in mind later in the season, she could be opposable on Thursday.

Johanna Walsh looks to be a hugely progressive filly for the Joseph O’Brien stable, and she will get a 9lb pull at the weights from many rivals this week, despite rating just 8lb lower than Kalpana.

The Sea The Stars filly has been progressive throughout this season, especially over a mile and four, finishing an agonizing head behind Earth Shot in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes before landing a dominant four-length win over Inis Mor in the Group One Irish Oaks.

Unlikely to have reached her ceiling, and deserves respect for a yard that has landed some notable prizes throughout the season.

16:10 - York - K Sarra

ITV’s coverage on Day Two rounds off with the Listed Galtres Stakes, run over a mile and four furlongs. K Sarra could be the interesting each-way contender at the prices.

The three-year-old was a well-beaten eighth in the Group One Oaks on ground that was too soft for her. Best to forgive her effort in the Aphordite Fillies’ Stakes, as she didn’t look suited to Newmarket.

She had previously posted a career-best effort at York when staying on better than most to take third in the Group Three Musidora.

A return to York could spark a revival, as the track plays to her style more than most. Capable of outrunning her odds and battling for a place on these terms.
