Chile make the trip to Stade Velodrome to take on France in an international friendly. France will be looking to build some good momentum before the European Championships whereas Chile will be looking for success in the Copa America.

The March international break is the last piece of preparation before a jam-packed tournament summer. France impressed at the World Cup and will be looking to make another Final whereas Chile will aim to make an impression at the Copa America.

The most recent action for France saw them in the European Championship Qualifiers. Les Bleus were joined in Group B by the Netherlands, Greece, the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar. In eight games, France have seven wins and one draw, going unbeaten and finishing top of the group by four points.

France’s last outing in tournament football was in the 2022 World Cup. Les Bleus impressed throughout the tournament and made it to the Final, picking off the likes of Poland, England and Morocco. An entertaining 3 - 3 draw, with a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe sent the tie to penalties. Misses from Aurelien Tchouameni and Kingsley Coman, however, gave Argentina the 4 - 2 win.

Chile have already secured their qualification for the Copa America with their position as a CONMEBOL team. La Roja are looking to get back to winning ways, having won the trophy twice already back in 2015 and 2016.

This will be a return to tournament football for Chile, as they missed out on the 2022 World Cup. In fact, this was their second consecutive World Cup missed, making this Copa America, and its preparation even more important to Chile.

France and Chile have only met five times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back at the first ever World Cup in 1930. Nothing can separate the two sides with both sides picking up two wins each, with one draw - the draw coming the last time out in 2011.

In these five meetings, there has only been one game with only one team on the scoresheet. This was the 6 - 0 win for France in a friendly in 1960. This fixture is also relatively high-scoring with only one game having less than two goals.

Didier Deschamps has called up a strong team for these friendlies. The likes of Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann will continue to lead the line and the likes of Premier League Ibrahima Konate and William Saliba in the defence. Adrian Rabiot has also been called up in the midfield despite only just returning to training after an injury.

Ricardo Gareca has called up familiar faces like Alexis Sanchez and Marcelino Nunez but the main talk of the team is who isn’t there. Sheffield United’s Ben Brereton Diaz has been left out by Gareca due to his lack of Spanish.

In their last five games in all competitions, France have three wins, one draw and one loss.

The trip to Signal Iduna Park saw France face Germany in a friendly. Thomas Muller’s early goal in the fourth minute gave Germany the 1 - 0 lead at halftime and Leroy Sane doubled the lead with three minutes to go. Griezmann did convert his late penalty but Germany held on for the 2 - 1 win.

Back in the European Championship Qualifiers, France took on the Netherlands. Mbappe grabbed his first goal in the seventh minute and doubled the lead early in the second half. Quilindschy Hartman did get the Netherlands on the scoresheet in the 83rd minute, but France secured the 2 - 1 win nevertheless.

Another friendly saw France hosting Scotland at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Billy Gilmour gave Scotland the early lead in the 11th minute but a brace from Benjamin Pavard and a penalty from Mbappe made it 3 - 1 to France at halftime. Coman grabbed a goal in the second half to bag a 4 - 1 win for France.

The visit from Gibraltar was a bloodbath. An own goal from Ethan Santos opened the scoring for France in the third minute and Marcus Thuram doubled the lead before the five-minute mark. Goals from Warren Zaire-Emery, Mbappe, Jonathan Clauss, Coman and Youssouf Fofana gave France the 7 - 0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Coman completed his brace, Mbappe completed his hat-trick, Giroud grabbed a brace and they were all joined on the scoresheet by Rabiot and Ousmane Dembele in a historic 14 - 0 win for France.

The last week of Qualifiers saw France travel to Greece. Randal Kolo Muani gave France the lead at halftime but goals from Anastasios Bakasetas and Fotis Iannidis gave Greece the 2 - 1 lead early in the second half. However, Fofana popped up with a late goal to rescue a 2 - 2 draw.
France also takes on Germany again this Saturday in another friendly.

In their last five games in all competitions, Chile have one win, two draws and two losses.

The visit from Colombia for the World Cup Qualifiers was a relatively even affair with Chile having 51% of the possession. La Roja did have three more shots on target than Colombia but both teams were unable to convert any of them and had to settle for a 0 - 0 draw.

Chile bounced back next time out against Peru. After a goalless first half, Diego Valdes Contreras opened the scoring for Chile in the 74th minute and Nunez scored in the 91st minute to secure the 2 - 0 win for Chile.

Yeferson Soteldo gave Venezuela the lead late in the first half and following the red card to Nunez, Salomon Rondon and Darwin Machis both scored to grab a 3 - 0 win for Venezuela.

The visit from Paraguay saw another red card for Chile, though both teams ended the game with ten men. Robert Rojas was sent off in the first half for Paraguay and despite having 72% of the possession Chile were unable to score and then had Victor Mendez sent off in the 88th minute as the game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.

Angel Mena scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute to give Ecuador the 1 - 0 win over Chile.
Chile play another friendly this Friday against Albania.

France are a formidable force in international football and are likely to punish Chile who are out of form. This game is also likely to be a high-scoring affair. France 4-1 Chile
