          Poland vs Scotland Prediction

Poland and Scotland have both been out of form heading into this game, and Poland’s earlier victory over Scotland has them at an advantage in the group. With seemingly nothing to separate the two, we are leaning towards a draw for this encounter.

Poland are winless in their previous four and have not kept a clean sheet in their last ten in all competitions, and conveniently, the hosts have conceded first in five of their previous seven. Scotland are not in terrific form themselves, although they will be looking to utilise the confidence gained from the 1-0 win over Croatia.

Poland are unbeaten in the last four meetings against Scotland, although neither side has kept a clean sheet in the previous four meetings. Expect goals, though, regardless, as both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings between the two teams.

On paper, this fixture should indeed be heading for a draw. Both sides have defensive concerns, which should lend itself to both teams finding the net, so a 1-1 draw could be on the cards here.

Poland vs Scotland Preview & Prediction

The final Nations League game takes place during this international break, as stages for the next phase of the competition will be confirmed. Poland takes on Scotland, with the hopes of gaining a relegation play-off spot the most likely option for either side.

          Date: 18/11/2024
          Location: National Stadium Warsaw
          Kick-Off: 7.45 pm

Poland and Scotland’s chances of qualification into the next phase of this competition are virtually impossible with Croatia occupying the final spot in this group, alongside group leaders Portugal. What faces both of these teams, is a potential play-off spot for the relegation places, in which it gives either team an opportunity to remain in this league phase. As it stands, Poland will be facing one of the second-placed teams from League B in a home/away promotion-relegation play-off, and Scotland will be automatically relegated to League B regardless. Scotland will have to beat Poland in order to secure a third-placed finish in this group.

Poland began their Nations League campaign with an opening win over their opponents in the reverse fixture, in which Poland left it late through a 97th-minute penalty by Nicola Zalewski. Since the opening game, Poland have been dismal in this campaign, which has included a 3-1 defeat and a 5-1 defeat to group leaders Portugal, whilst only gaining one point from four in a 3-3 draw against Croatia. Poland have scored eight and conceded 14 but are ahead on head-to-head record against Steve Clarke’s side.

Scotland have had the opposite effect when it pertains to their form in this group, having picked up four points in their previous two, leaving them level with their Polish counterparts heading into Monday’s game. The visitors began their Nations League campaign with that defeat to Poland and then followed it up with two consecutive defeats to Portugal and Croatia, respectively. The last two games for Scotland have provided solace with the draw against Portugal and the late winner over Croatia.

          Form Guide

The recent history between the two sides technically favours Poland, although sub-context is important when analysing the recent meetings between the two sides. As mentioned, Poland won the most recent meeting between the two sides in the first group game. Although Poland are unbeaten in their last four against Steve Clarke’s side, the three remaining games have ended in a draw.

Poland are yet to win at home in this competition, and the pre-European Championships in the summer was the last time the hosts recorded a home victory. Overall, including friendlies and the Nations League, Poland have won three of their previous five on home soil, meaning a 60% win rate in the calendar year of 2024. Before the summer, Poland recorded three consecutive victories at home against Turkey, Ukraine and Estonia respectively.

Their last home game in this competition brought the hosts their only point at home as the spoils were shared in a 3-3 draw with Croatia. In their most recent game, however, they were subjected to a 5-1 humiliating defeat at the hands of Portugal in which Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace. Poland are winless in their previous four games in the Nations League.

Scotland have the same record in this competition as Poland, with one win, one draw and three losses - which they suffered at the start of the campaign. Scotland, though have shown great determination in their losses, having only lost by a single goal in all three losses against Poland, Portugal and Croatia, respectively. Excluding the European Championships, Scotland have only won once away from home, which was against Gibraltar and have suffered defeats to the likes of the Netherlands and drawing against Georgia.

In their most recent away fixture, they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Croatia, where Andrej Kramaric completed the comeback win for Croatia after Ryan Christie had given Scotland the lead inside 32 minutes. In their most recent game, Scotland secured a priceless victory over Croatia in the reverse fixture, thanks to a late goal from Aston Villa’s John McGinn.
