Colombia make the trip to the London Stadium to take on Spain in an international friendly this Friday. Both sides have a big tournament this summer and will be looking to build some good momentum with wins this international break.

Both Spain and Colombia had disappointing outings in their last tournament appearances and will be looking for some strong showings this international break to set themselves up for a jam-packed summer.

Spain dominated in the European Qualifiers, finishing top of their group. Group A saw La Roja face off against Scotland, Norway, Georgia and Cyprus. In eight games, Spain picked up seven wins and one loss, leaving them to finish top, four points ahead of Scotland.

La Roja have picked up a trophy recently, that being the Nations League, where they picked up a 5 - 4 penalty shootout win over Italy. However, at the 2022 World Cup, Spain just about made it out of the group stage. After narrowly edging Germany, Spain drew Morocco in the Round of 16. A 0 - 0 draw saw the tie sent to penalties, and a 3 - 0 loss saw Spain crash out.

Colombia, on the other hand, automatically qualified for the Copa America due to all ten CONMEBOL teams being eligible for qualification.

However, the trials and tribulations of Colombia saw them unable to even qualify for the 2022 World Cup. In 18 games, Colombia could only pick up five wins, eight draws and five losses which left them on 23 points, one point from the inter-confederation play-offs and three points from out-right qualification.

Spain and Colombia have met just five times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in 1979. There has only been one win in this fixture, that being the 1 - 0 win for Spain back in 2011 in an international friendly.

Colombia have never beaten Spain, but there have been four draws in the fixture, usually with both teams on the scoresheet, the one win and one 0 - 0 draw being the only two times where both teams didn’t find the back of the net.

Luis de la Fuente is missing a couple of big names due to injury, including Barcelona’s Pedri and Gavi. But key figures like Manchester City’s Rodri, Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and Real Madrid’s Joselu.

Nestor Lorenzo has made a big call for his squad for this international break as he included James Rodriguez. Other than that, Lorenzo has also included the likes of Premier League talents Luis Diaz and Luis Sinisterra.

In their last five games in all competitions, Spain have five wins.

The clash at Los Carmenes against Cyprus was a goal-fest for Spain. Gavi opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Mikel Merino doubled the lead before halftime. Joselu added a third in the 70th minute and a late brace from Ferran Torres along with a goal from Alex Baena wrapped up a 6 - 0 win for Spain.

Scotland’s trip to the Estadio de la Cartuja saw the top two of the group take each other on. Spain restricted The Scots to just one shot on target and 25% of the possession as Morata and Oihan Sancet both scored in the last 20 minutes to secure the 2 - 0 win for La Roja.

Gavi was on the scoresheet again for Spain, this time against Norway. The Barcelona player’s goal in the 49th minute was the only goal of the game in the 1 - 0 win for Spain, as both teams could only manage two shots on target.

The reverse fixture at Cyprus saw The Cypriots manage to get on the scoresheet. Lamine Yamal opened the scoring for Spain in the fifth minute and goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Joselu made it 3 - 0 at halftime. Kostas Pileas did score for Cyprus but Spain held on for the 3 - 1 win.

The last time out for Spain was against Georgia. Robin Le Normand gave La Roja the early lead with his goal in the fourth minute but a goal from Kvicha Kvaratskhelia six minutes later made it level at halftime. However, a goal from Torres and an own goal from Luka Lochoshvili secured another 3 - 1 win for Spain.

In their last five games in all competitions, Colombia have four wins and one draw.

The trip to the Estadio de Liga Deportiva Universitaria saw Colombia take on Ecuador. Both teams only had three shots on target and were unable to convert either of them as they settled for a 0 - 0 draw.

Colombia were behind early against Brazil. Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the fourth minute to give Brazil a lead they would keep until the last 15 minutes. Diaz popped up with a four-minute brace to secure a 2 - 1 comeback win, with Colombia registering seven more shots on target than Brazil.

Rafael Santos Borre Maury’s penalty in the 11th minute was the only goal of the game as Colombia picked up a 1 - 0 win over Paraguay.

It was another 1 - 0 win for Colombia, this time against Venezuela. An own goal from Andres Ferro in the 41st minute was enough for Colombia to pick up the win, with Venezuela failing to register a single shot on target.

The most recent outing for Colombia was against Mexico. Omar Govea gave Mexico the lead at halftime and Guillermo Martinez Ayala doubled the lead just after halftime. However, goals from Andres Reyes, Roger Martinez and Andres Gomez gave Colombia the 3 - 2 win.

Colombia have never beaten Spain and this is a feat that’s likely to continue this weekend. However, they aren’t likely to make it easy, with both teams likely to be on the scoresheet. Spain 2-1 Colombia
