          Spain vs Switzerland Prediction

Spain should be the overwhelming favourites for this tie, in this final Nations League game for the current tournament and European champions.

Spain have been nothing short of excellent in 2024, as the hosts are unbeaten in 15 consecutive games in all competitions this calendar year. La Roja have won their previous four straight games in the Nations League and are 11 points clear of their Swiss counterparts. Switzerland are winless in their last six in all competitions and without a clean sheet.

In this fixture, Switzerland are without a clean sheet in the last seven meetings, as Spain have scored first in five of the previous seven games between the two teams. Don't expect Spain to keep a clean sheet regardless, as both teams have scored in four of the last five meetings.

For these reasons, we expect an entertaining game between the two teams nonetheless, although Spain will be the safest bet for this game. We predict Spain will overcome Switzerland by a 3-1 scoreline.

Spain vs Switzerland Preview & Prediction

The final Nations League game takes place during this international break, as stages for the next competition phase will be confirmed. Group leaders Spain hosts a Switzerland side who are seemingly consigned to relegation.

          Date: 18/11/2024
          Location: Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez
          Kick-Off: 7.45 pm

Spain have been excellent this campaign and are assured of a spot in the quarter-finals regardless of the result against Switzerland, in which they are expected to secure the victory. La Roja have won four of their five Nations League games, having only dropped points in the opening game against Serbia. The hosts have scored ten and only conceded twice in those five games.

Switzerland have endured a terrible campaign in the Nations League and looks consigned to relegation after five games played. The visitors have only scored four in the five played; however, their defensive output has concerned them the most, having conceded 11. Switzerland could qualify for a relegation play-off space if they were to beat Spain and Serbia lose to Denmark.

The two teams famously met in the European Championships of 2020, where Spain needed a penalty shootout to overcome Switzerland.

          Form Guide

The recent history between the two teams suggests that the current European and former World Champions, Spain, will be the favourites for this game. La Roja have won three of the previous five meetings between the two teams, including the 4-1 away win recorded when the teams met in September. In this fixture, Switzerland are without a clean sheet in the last seven meetings, as Spain have scored first in five of the previous seven games between the two teams.

Spain have been nothing short of excellent in 2024, as the hosts are unbeaten in 15 consecutive games in all competitions this calendar year. La Roja have won their previous four straight games in the Nations League and are 11 points clear of their Swiss counterparts before playing this game. At home, Spain have been imperious, having won their previous six on home soil - excluding the European Championships.

In their most recent game, Spain were made to worry slightly by a determined Denmark side. Mikel Oyarzabal (who scored the winning goal for Spain against England in the European Championships) opened the scoring for La Roja in the 15th minute. Former Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez doubled the lead for Spain just short of the hour before a late consolation from Gustav Isaksen provided concern for Spain, who ultimately held on.

Switzerland are in terrible form heading into this game, having yet to win in their last five competitive games in this competition. Interestingly, their most previous competitive win was the 2-0 knockout victory over Italy in the European Championships, before the win over Italy. Switzerland has been on an eight-game unbeaten run if you include friendlies. Away from home, the visitors have also been poor, losing their previous three on their travels and only managing one win in five.

In their most recent away game, Serbia defeated Switzerland with an own goal from Nico Elvedi, adding more pain to their cause. Interestingly, Switzerland are unbeaten in their previous two, despite not winning. Consecutive draws against Denmark and Serbia have given the visitors for this game two points from four in a disappointing campaign.
