              Wales vs Montenegro Prediction

Wales will be favourites for this game against inferior opposition in Montenegro, and will be desperate to get back to winning ways. We are backing them to do so in a comfortable home win. Wales won the previous meeting between the pair 2-1, and they look more certain of a victory back on home soil.

Montenegro have lost five consecutive away fixtures and this trend is likely to continue. Wales have a moderately impressive home record, losing just once in their last six. This includes three victories and two draws. The visitors have conceded first in all of their last five games, and are chasing their first clean sheet in five – Wales 2-0 Montenegro

Wales vs Montenegro: Preview & Prediction

Wales welcome Montenegro to the Cardiff City Stadium looking to get their Nations League campaign back on track with a victory.

              Date: 14/10/24

              Kick-off time: 19:45

              Venue: Cardiff City Stadium

A draw last time out at Iceland has seen Wales drop to second in their group in League B. They now trail Turkey by two points with a win and two draws after three games. It was two points dropped in their last fixture, as they squandered a two-goal lead. Anything but a win against Montenegro could see them fall further behind top spot or potentially drop to third.

They will be facing a Montenegro side who are bottom of the group with zero points. It presents a perfect opportunity for Wales to get back on track against a side who are struggling mightily. The visitors have scored just once in the competition, though that did come against their upcoming opponents.

The pair already met on matchday two, with Wales coming out on top 2-1 winners. However, at home, Wales should have greater control on the game. Montenegro’s lack of firepower will be a welcome sight for the hosts, as Wales have kept just one clean sheet in their last four. They have conceded seven goals in this time. Although on home soil they have allowed just three in their last seven.

Going forward, Wales have been better of late, but have been shutout in four of their last six. Although, they have netted twice in each of their last two games. They will likely lean on the presence of Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson, who has emerged as a dangerous threat in recent weeks. He scored in the latest draw against Iceland, which continues his excellent club form. For Spurs he has scored six goals in all competitions.

Before their previous meeting last month, Wales and Montenegro had faced off just three times. The visitors had won two and lost one, though these games took place between 2009 and 2011. Kieffer Moore and Harry Wilson were the goalscorers in their September win.

              Wales

Joe Allen is available for the first time in two years after returning from international football retirement. Rhys Norrington-Davis also receives his first call-up in two years following long term injuries. David Brooks, Nathan Broadhead and Wes Burns are available for selection after missing out in September. Aaron Ramsey and Ethan Ampadu are out with injuries.

              Montenegro

Former Premier League striker Stevan Jovetic will likely lead the line once more for Montenegro. He will be supported by the likes of Driton Camaj and Nikola Krstovic on the wings. Montenegro should have a fully fit squad to choose from.

              Form Guide

              Wales:

In their last five games, Wales have won one, lost one and drawn three. It has been a disappointing stretch for Wales as they have struggled for wins. This run started with a friendly back in June, in which they were held to a goalless draw against minnows Gibraltar. Three days later they were convincingly beaten 4-0 away at Slovakia. Juraj Kucka, Robert Bozenik and Laszlo Benes all scored, adding to an Ethan Ampadu own goal.

They returned to Nations League action in September, though their offensive woes continued with another 0-0 draw, this time at home to Turkey. Their visitors played the final half an hour with 10 men, but Wales were unable to take advantage, managing just one shot on target.

A win was finally recorded in their next game, beating Montenegro 2-1. Wales came out strong, going 2-0 up within the first three minutes thanks to goals from Kieffer Moore and Harry Wilson. Driton Camaj pulled one back late on, but the visitors hung on for the win. Their most recent game was a trip to Iceland, in which they drew 2-2. They took a two goal lead through Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson, but conceded twice in the space of three second half minutes to squander their advantage.

              Montenegro:

In their last five games, Montenegro have lost all of them. It has been a tough stretch for Montenegro as they have endured an extended losing stretch. The first in this run came away at Belgium in a friendly back in June. Kevin De Bruyne and Leandro Trossard were the scorers at the end of each half.

They followed this with a 3-1 home defeat to Georgia. The visitors went two goals ahead through Otar Kiteishvili and Georges Mikautadze. Stevan Jovetic halved the deficit, but another Georgia strike put the game out of reach in the final 10 minutes. Iceland were their next opponents, though another loss occurred with a 2-0 result. The hosts scored a goal either side of half-time. Montenegro threatened with more possession and 10 attempts, but could not find a breakthrough.

A first fixture with their upcoming opponents Wales ended in a 2-1 loss. Two early goals for Wales took the game away early, and a response from Driton Camaj was not enough. Last time out they travelled to Turkey. They lost 1-0, with an Irfan Kahveci goal the difference.
