Royal Ascot Day 3 ITV Racing Tips - 19th June 2025

14:30 - Ascot - Norfolk Stakes (Group Two) - Charles Darwin

Aidan O’Brien has already been among the winners at Ascot this week, and the yard could strike in the opening contest on Thursday.

Charles Darwin ranks considerably the best based on RPRs, and has been difficult to catch on his last two starts when making the running.

Quickly put Cardiff By The Sea away over five furlongs at Naas last time, and despite likely being in a fight for the lead, he could still be difficult to beat with Ryan Moore aboard.

15:05 - Ascot - King George V Stakes - Gunship

A trappy handicap for three-year-olds is the second race on the card at Ascot on Thursday.

James Ferguson-trained Gunship looks a very interesting contender on this step up in trip. The three-year-old will have Oisin Murphy aboard today, and looks like a potential stayer over this trip based on his finishing effort when a close third behind Sing Us A Song at Sandown.

Geared up for this handicap attempt with a faultless run over a mile and two at Newcastle 39 days ago.

15:40 - Ascot - Ribblesdale Stakes (Group Two) - Serenity Prayer

Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy team up with Serenity Prayer in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes.

The filly was last seen finishing a decent second in the Group Three Musidora Stakes behind Whirl.

Will likely relish this step up to a mile and four furlongs, and has already won under rules after scoring ahead of Lady Ridgewood at Newbury.

16:20 - Ascot - Gold Cup (Group One) - Trawlerman

John & Thady Gosden last landed Gold Cup success in 2023 with Courage Mon Ami.

The yard has been in excellent recent form, striking at 25% over the last two weeks. Trawlerman is one of the few proven stayers over this trip, including when a close second behind Kyprios in this race 12 months ago.

Returned to action with an impressive win at Sandown over two miles last month, finishing five lengths clear of Coltrane.

Gets his conditions for this year’s Gold Cup, and could step up to replace the recently retired Kyprios as the staying king.

17:00 - Ascot - Britannia Stakes - Fifth Column

Fifth Column comes out on top based on the trends for the Britannia Stakes.

The three-year-old will carry 9-1, and ten of the last 12 winners have carried less than 9 st 2lb. Fifth Column has improved immeasurably since being gelded in December, winning on the all-weather at Kempton and on the turf at Sandown; both over a mile.

Up another 6lb for that recent success at Sandown, but the John & Thady Gosden-trained runner could still be improving. William Buick is also a notable booking.

17:35 - Ascot - Hampton Court Stakes (Group Three) - Sea Scout

Eleven of the last 12 winners of the Group Three Hampden Court Stakes have held a rating of at least 103.

Therefore, the higher quality runners in the race this week should come to the fore. Sea Scout could be an interesting each-way contender for the Simon & Ed Crisford yard, as he returns to a mile and two after failing to see out the trip in the Derby.

Has winning experience over this distance, beating red-hot favourite Trinity College by a head in a listed race at Epsom in April. May yet have a race like this in him.

18:10 - Ascot - Buckingham Palace Stakes - Yorkshire

The final race at Ascot on Gold Cup day is the competitive Buckingham Palace Stakes.

Plenty have leading claims, but an each-way chance could be taken with the Edward Bethell-trained Yorkshire.

The five-year-old wasn’t far away when fourth over seven furlongs at Haydock last time out, and he has won six from 17 career starts.

Interestingly, the trends support his chances, with six of the last seven winners drawn 24 or higher, and all but one of the last seven winners being rated between 92 and 99.
