Saturday ITV Racing Tips - 28th June 2025

13:40 - Newcastle - Sergeant Wilko

Kevin Ryan could kick off the ITV coverage on Saturday with a winner. Sergeant Wilko appears to be in good order following his fourth over six furlongs at Newcastle last month, beaten just over a length by Kodi Lion.

Has a course and distance win to his name, and Jamie Spencer is an interesting booking.

13:55 - York - Captain Guarantee

Captain Guarantee is a well-handicapped runner in the opening race at York on Saturday. David O’Meara’s runner has won five from 20 starts on the turf, and was last seen finishing fifth of eleven over a mile and a furlong at York a couple of weeks ago.

However, he was an excellent winner over a mile at Thirsk in May, and the strength of that form makes him a leading player now back over the trip.

14:10 - Newcastle - Kind Of Blue

Kind Of Blue could be difficult to beat in the 14:10 for James Fanshawe. The four-year-old has a tune-up run behind him after finishing last of nine at Chantilly at the start of the month.

However, he steps back up to six furlongs today, and boasts winning form over the trip after winning over the distance at Ascot in October.

Also has winning form on his sole start on the all-weather after claiming success on debut at Kempton last April.

14:25 - York - Lake Forest

The William Haggas yard has been in excellent form over the last two weeks, and the trainer should have an outstanding chance in the 14:25 at York.

Lake Forest was last seen finishing fifth of ten in the Group One Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, beaten just two lengths by Docklands.

Has winning experience over six furlongs at York, and has plenty of high-quality form to his name over seven furlongs.

14:40 - Newcastle - Alnayef

The next race from Newcastle on Saturday comes in the form of the Northumberland Vase Handicap. A chance could be taken on Alnayef at a big price for the in-form Jim Goldie yard.

The four-year-old was highly regarded during his time with the John & Thady Gosden yard, but has yet to fire in two starts for his new yard.

Was last seen finishing eighth over a mile and five at Hamilton, but he ran a strong race on his all-weather bow in October, and could improve over this marathon trip.

15:00 - York - Habooba

Tom Marquand is an eye-catching booking in the 15:00 at York. Habooba has won once from three starts on the turf, with her sole victory coming last time out over course and distance in May when beating Bergerac by over a length.

Five furlongs appears to be her trip, and she is still hugely unexposed. Plenty more to come from the filly, and she could be the value play at York this weekend.

15:15 - Newcastle - Roaring Legend

The feature on Saturday comes in the form of the Northumberland Plate Handicap. As expected, many have leading claims, but Roaring Legend could be an interesting player at an each-way price.

The Hugo Palmer runner will have David Probert aboard, and has won three from seven starts on the all-weather. He was a winner over course and distance in January, and will be making his first start following wind surgery on Saturday.

15:30 - Curragh - Kalpana

ITV also heads to Ireland this Saturday, as the Group One Pretty Polly Stakes will be held at the Curragh.

Kalpana could showcase her class in the feature for the Andrew Balding team after finishing a solid third on her return over course and distance behind Los Angeles in the Group One Tattersalls Gold Cup last month.

She is a proven stayer, and could be too talented for this field now, back against her own sex.

15:45 - Newcastle - Native Warrior

Native Warrior is an interesting chance in the finale on ITV this weekend. The Karl Burke yard is in excellent form, and James Doyle is booked to take the ride.

The four-year-old finished a sound second over a mile at Windsor last month, beaten just two lengths by Socialite. Will be making his all-weather debut this weekend, but a drop back to seven furlongs aids his chances.
