ITV’s coverage on Saturday kicks off with the Group Three Geoffrey Freer Stakes. William Haggas has been striking at 38% over the last two weeks, and in-form Tom Marquand takes the ride on Candleford.
The seven-year-old made his breakthrough in stakes company at Beverley at the start of last month, before running an excellent race in defeat at Goodwood when finishing fourth lengths behind Al Aasy in the Group Three Glorious Stakes. A repeat of that effort won’t see him far away.
ITV also has a race from Newmarket on Saturday. Silver Samurai could be an interesting angle at a bigger price for the Marco Botti team.
The eight-year-old is a previous course and distance winner, and he ran a solid enough race at Doncaster last time out over seven furlongs when beaten just a length by Grand Taverse.
Goes well at Newmarket and should enjoy being back at the track for the first time since his win in August 2023.
Lil Guff has been running consistently this season, and she deserves to get her nose in front sooner or later.
The six-year-old once again ran to form when last seen at Ascot, finishing third and was just a length behind Galaxy Zoo.
Carries a light weight today, and she has very little to find on RPRs with the leaders at the top of the betting. Each-way claims at the very least.
Two races from Ripon also feature on ITV this Saturday, including the Silver Cup Handicap.
Plenty have chances, but Wreck It Ryley could provide value in the betting. The five-year-old finished ahead of Just Takes Time over course and distance 12 months ago, and the visor is reapplied today.
Looks to be in good form after a solid enough fifth of eleven at York over six furlongs last time, beaten just a length. Geared up for a big run with Clifford Lee booked to take the ride.
Leadman should hold very strong claims in the handicap at Newbury on Saturday.
The five-year-old, for the in-form combination of David O’Meara and Daniel Tudhope, was a winner at Newmarket on his penultimate start, beating Up The Pace by just under a length.
Things didn’t go to plan at Goodwood last time, and it’s best to forgive that effort. Up 5lb, but should be capable of a good run if replicating his recent Newmarket effort.
A very tricky handicap at Ripon is due off at 15:20, with 17 runners going to post.
A chance could be taken at a selection at a massive price, as Intervention could outrun his odds. The eight-year-old for Michael Appleby has been in solid form in recent starts, including when third of 13 behind Flag Of St George at Chepstow at the start of the month.
The drop back to six furlongs is a big plus, and if replicating his winning all-weather form from Wolverhampton at the end of last month, he holds each-way claims.
The feature from Newbury on Saturday is the Group Two Hungerford Stakes.
Great Generation has very interesting claims. The Marco Botti runner is a serial winner in Group Three company, scoring most recently in the Group Three Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes at Linfield.
Didn’t perform to her standard at Ascot in Group One company last time, but the step back up to seven furlongs and drop in grade make her a fascinating contender.
