13:15 - Wetherby - Choose A Copper

ITV”s stacked line-up of racing on Saturday gets underway with a handicap chase over an extended two miles and three furlongs.

Choose A Copper could still have more to offer over fences for the Lucinda Russell & Michael Scudamore team.

He was a winner on his reappearance last October when beating Dare to Shout over two miles and four, but his form dipped slowly throughout the remainder of the season. Had wind surgery back in May, and first-time out is typically the time to catch him.

13:30 - Ascot - Viroflay

Viroflay could be an interesting selection for the in-form Paul Nicholls yard in ITV’s opening race from Ascot on Saturday.

The eight-year-old has finished in the first two on four of his five efforts over fences, and he ran a storming race over an extended three miles when last seen at Punchestown behind Its On The Line.

This drop back in trip doesn’t present many issues after winning a Hunters’ Chase by a 34-length margin over two miles and four in April. Regular rider Olive Nicholls takes off an important 7lb.

13:50 - Wetherby - Golden Ace

A disappointing field of three go to post for the Listed Mares’ Hurdle at 13:50.

Champion Hurdle heroine Golden Ace is taken to make a winning reappearance in this company for trainer Jeremy Scott. The seven-year-old has won six from nine starts over hurdles, and was far from disgraced when second behind State Man in the G1 Champion Hurdle at Punchestown when last seen.

Is clear on ratings, even with a penalty to carry.

14:05 - Ascot - Martator

Venetia Williams’ runners are slowly coming back out this Autumn, and she is preferred to land the Grundon Waste Management Handicap Chase at Ascot on Saturday.

Martator was a winner over course and distance on his return to action last year, beating Issar d’Airy by just under two lengths. The eight-year-old thrives around Ascot, having later followed up that success with a jumping clinic when beating Kotmas by an eleven-length margin last November.

Ned Fox takes off an important 5lb this weekend.

14:22 - Wetherby - Strong Leader

Next up is the Grade Two bet365 Hurdle over three miles at Wetherby. Strong Leader’s season petered out in the end last term after winning on his reappearance at Newbury.

Wind surgery appeared to have had the desired impact toward the end of last season after finishing a respectable second in the Grade One Liverpool Hurdle. Likely winner based on his proven ability to stay this distance, and the form of Olly Murphy and Sean Bowen.

14:40 - Down Royal - Found A Fifty

ITV also has coverage of the Grade One Champion Chase from Down Royal this Saturday. Gordon Elliott has a strong hand in the race, but Jack Kennedy has opted to ride Found A Fifty.

The eight-year-old rounded off last season with a sixth victory over fences after landing the Grade Two Fairyhouse Chase over two miles and four. He goes well at the track after winning over an extended two miles and three last season.

Goes up in trip this weekend, but that should suit after winning his P2P over three miles by a 15-length margin in November 2021. Plenty to like about his chances.

14:57 - Wetherby - Hewick

The Grade Two Charlie Hall Chase headlines the card at Wetherby on Saturday. Plenty have leading claims, but the fact that Hewick has race fitness on his side shouldn’t be underestimated.

The John Hanlon runner was an excellent winner over hurdles on his comeback earlier this month when beating Moon D’Orange by four lengths. Has a consistent strike rate over fences, winning six from eight starts, which includes a victory in the Grade One King George in 2023.

Hewick is still as good as ever over fences, indicated by his eighth in the Grand National in April. Versatile in terms of distance and ground, giving him outstanding claims.

15:10 - Ascot - Fasol

ITV’s penultimate race from Ascot on Saturday is the Lavazza Handicap Hurdle, which is run over an extended mile and seven.

Fasol was given an interesting ride on his return to action at Chepstow last time out, finishing four lengths behind Frontier Prince over two miles. The six-year-old has strong form that ties in with last weekend’s Cheltenham winner Give It To Me Oj, finishing five lengths behind the eventual winner at Sandown in April.

Plenty going in his favour on these terms for an in-form Nicholls yard.

15:30 - Wetherby - Max Of Stars

Max Of Stars could be the interesting angle in the 15:30 at Wetherby. The Ollie Pears mare has little to find on official ratings in this company, and Brian Hughes is a notable jockey booking.

The five-year-old was an excellent winner on her return to action, winning over course and distance when easily holding Paddys Policy.

Won with plenty in hand on that occasion, and is more than capable of running another big race despite going up in the handicap.

15:45 - Ascot - Neon Moon

The Changing Man deserves respect at the top of the betting for the Gold Cup Handicap Chase.

However, Neon Moon could be primed to enjoy a big payday for trainer David Pipe. The nine-year-old is still unexposed over three miles, and ran an eye-catching race over the trip when fourth at Uttoxeter in May.

A return to Ascot presents plenty of positives, with his best run to date seeing him finish within four lengths of Chianti Classico in this race 12 months ago. Has been targeted at this year’s edition since then, and Jack Tudor takes the ride.
