Saturday ITV Racing Tips - 23rd August 2025

13:50 - York - Bowmark

Saturday’s coverage on ITV kicks off with the Group Three Strensall Stakes.

Three-year-olds have dominated the recent editions, winning two of the last three, and a chance could be taken on Bowmark to continue that sequence.

The John & Thady Gosden yard is in red-hot form, and the selection has won twice from four career starts. That includes a success over a mile by four lengths at York earlier this season.

Was last seen finishing 14th, but only six lengths behind Camille Pissarro, in the Group One Prix du Jockey Club. William Buick is back aboard.

14:05 - Goodwood - Purosangue

ITV also covers races from Goodwood on Saturday, and a competitive handicap is due off at 14:05.

Purosangue could be worth giving another chance to. The four-year-old met trouble when only 24th over six furlongs in the Stewards’ Cup at the start of the month, but he has run credibly in big handicaps throughout the season.

Up in trip for the first time this weekend, and the Andrew Balding yard has already been among the winners this week.

14:25 - York - Cape Breton

The first of two hot handicaps at York on Saturday comes in the form of the Melrose Handicap.

Last time out winners have a poor record in the race (3-12), meaning that it could be worth chancing the classy Cape Breton.

The Ralph Beckett gelding was an impressive winner over a mile and four at Salisbury in June, beating Tremorgio by six lengths. Ran a solid race in defeat last time when fourth of nine behind Omni Man at Goodwood.

The step up in trip should suit today, and Richard Kingscote is once again aboard. Ticks plenty of the right boxes in terms of trends.

14:40 - Goodwood - Dream Harder

Ian Williams-trained Dream Harder could be set for a big run in the 14:40 at Goodwood on Saturday.

The six-year-old hasn’t looked suited by Ascot on his last two efforts, but stays a mile and four fairly well based on his strong second behind Small Fry at Epsom earlier in the year.

Has little to find on RPRs to get competitive this weekend, and is back on a handy mark to suggest that today could be his day.

15:00 - York - Rosallion

Rosallion has been unlucky in Group One races throughout 2025, but there is a sense that Saturday could be his day.

The Richard Hannon runner was beaten a nose by Docklands in the Group One Queen Anne, before faring much of the best of the big guns in the Group One Sussex Stakes when beaten only a neck by Qirat.

Sean Levey retains the ride, and his performances this season ensure that he deserves to land the City of York Stakes on the basis of the form lines.

15:35 - York - Roaring Legend

The feature at York on Saturday comes in the form of the Ebor Handicap. Eleven of the last 12 winners have been aged between four and six, while ten winners over the same period have carried between 9-1 and 9-9, as well as being rated 101+.

Furthermore, horses beaten last time out are 8/12, and previous winners over further than a mile and six are 7/12.

Based on the trends, there are five possible winners: Charlus, Subsequent, Yashin, Real Dream, and Roaring Legend.

A chance is taken on the latter, with Hollie Doyle booked aboard the Hugo Palmer runner for the first time. The selection looked like a major staying prospect after wins at Lingfield and Newcastle, but is yet to replicate that level in 2025 from two starts since wind surgery.

This could have been the aim for a long time, and a big run is expected at an each-way price.

16:10 - York - Pocklington

ITV’s coverage from York this week concludes with the 16:10. Pocklington looks like a solid chance for the Geoff Oldroyd stable.

The four-year-old was beaten under a length in the big-field Dash Handicap last month, and was within three lengths of subsequent Grade One winner Jm Jungle over an extended five furlongs on his first start following wind surgery last August.

Goes very well at York and is unlikely to be that far away based on his recent efforts.
