Saturday ITV Racing Tips - 26th July 2025

13:40 - Ascot - Midnight Tango

Ed Walker’s Midnight Tango could be an interesting chance in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes, which kicks off the ITV coverage on Saturday.

The two-year-old filly was an impressive winner over six furlongs at Hamilton in June, before improving on that form to take a head second behind Argentine Tango in listed company last time.

That form has since been boosted with the winner finishing a credible third in Group Three company. Tom Marquand is a notable booking.

14:00 - York - Pocklington

Pocklington looks like a handicap winner in waiting this season, and he should enjoy his return to York.

Was tenth over an extended five furlongs at the track last season, but that race has thrown up a number of winners this season.

Pocklington returned to action with an excellent run to take second over six furlongs at Newcastle last month, and he should be tuned up for this weekend’s race.

14:20 - Ascot - American Gal

American Gal could be an outside contender for the Ed Walker yard in the Group Three Valiant Stakes on Saturday.

The three-year-old found the Group One Prix de Diane too hot last time, but she returns to a mile this weekend with creditable form in the book. She was a winner over the distance in France in early May, landing the honours when seeing off Eponine in listed company.

Has also won over a mile in the UK after landing a maiden victory at Kempton last October. Versatile in terms of ground, and in-form Hector Crouch is booked to take the ride.

14:40 - York - Almaqam

Almaqam should prove hard to beat in the Group Two York Stakes on Saturday.

The four-year-old is clear on ratings, and was last seen landing the Group Three Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown. That form has a strong look, as the colt outstayed Ombudsman to win by just under two lengths.

Has plenty of solid form to his name at the highest level, and he was a winner on his only previous start at York in April 2024.

15:00 - Ascot - Kodi Lion

Michael Appleby’s luck could change in the big handicap at Ascot on Saturday, as Kodi Lion holds solid each-way claims.

The four-year-old steps back up to seven furlongs this weekend, and has already run credibly at Ascot this season when taking a classy second behind Get It in May.

Was a winner over course and distance last July, and the return to seven furlongs, coupled with a low draw, will enhance his chances this weekend.

15:20 - York - Mersea

Jump jockeys will be in action on the flat in the 15:20, and cases can be made for plenty.

However, Mersea, for the Grant Tuer and Henry Brooke combination, looked back to her best when dropped to five furlongs last time. She finished a close second behind Secret Mistral and looked to have been suited by the minimum trip.

She has won three from 25 starts on the turf, and is one of the few course and distance winners.

15:35 - Ascot - Hickory

Things haven’t exactly gone to plan for Hickory this season, but a return to his favoured Ascot could reignite his campaign.

The seven-year-old was a winner over seven furlongs on his first start this season, getting the better of Qirat. He then ran a big race in defeat at Sandown over a mile before running no races on his last two appearances at Newmarket.

Hickory is back down to an attractive mark, and has a fighting chance for the in-form combination of Jamie and Saffie Osbourne.

16:10 - Ascot - Jan Brueghel

A fascinating showdown is scheduled for the Group One King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes on Saturday, as Calandagan and Jan Brueghel renew their rivalry.

However, the preference is for the latter to confirm the form of the Group One Coronation Cup. Aidan O’Brien’s runner out-battled the French raider on that day, and while Calandagan is entitled to run a bigger race, so is the ride of Ryan Moore.

Jan Brueghel has suffered just one defeat in six starts under rules, with that coming on his return over an inadequate mile and two.

Lacks the Ascot form of some of his rivals, but that doesn’t mean that the track won’t bring out further improvement. O’Brien and Moore are both in hot form, and last year’s St Leger winner appears hard to overlook.
