          Wrexham vs Wycombe Prediction

Newly promoted Wrexham are our selection to win this game against Wycombe Wanderers; however, the game will be highly competitive between the two teams. Wrexham won their last five competitive fixtures, whilst Wycombe won four out of their previous five in all comps. Wrexham’s home form could prove pivotal, with the home side having won their last four home games stretching back to last season.

Expect both teams to score in this game, with the BTTS market having landed in five of Wrexham's previous six games, with five in seven for Wycombe. Ollie Palmer will be tasked to replace the injured Paul Mullin. Ollie Palmer averaged 1.7 shots per game last season, of which 0.7 were on target. James McLean and Luke Leahy will be the ones to watch for discipline, with McLean averaging 1.2 fouls per game last season and Leahy with 0.7 fouls.

For this game, we predict Wrexham to beat Wycombe Wanderers 2-1.

          Wrexham 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers.

Wrexham vs Wycombe: Preview & Prediction

The new season is fast approaching as teams across the country set the stall out in preparation for the new campaign. Wrexham hosts Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day, with the Welsh side looking to make a significant impact in England’s third tier.

          Date: 10/08/2024

          Location: The Racecourse Ground

          Kick-Off: 5.30 pm

Wrexham’s Hollywood story recorded its latest chapter last season, as the Welsh side reached the third tier of English football after years away. Wrexham’s success was even more impressive considering it was successive promotions under Phil Parkinson following the first promotion from the National League two years ago. The club has been on a meteoric rise since the arrival of owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who have certainly used their money for the benefit of the club.

Wrexham were brilliant throughout last season, as they finished four points behind eventual league winners Stockport County. However, the Welsh side still reaped the rewards of promotion. The home side scored 89 goals in 46 games last season, averaging 1.9 per game. Wrexham kept 16 clean sheets whilst conceding 1.1 shots per game.

Wycombe Wanderers finished tenth last season, falling short of a late play-off run someway through the season. The Chairboys recorded 65 points from 46 games, scoring 60 and winning 17 league games. Wycombe Wanderers suffered the ignominy of losing a Wembley final as they were beaten by Peterborough United thanks to a late winner from Harrison Burrows. Wycombe Wanderers scored 1,3 goals per game last season whilst keeping 14 clean sheets, conceding 1.2.

Matt Bloomfield has looked to strengthen his side for this and made at least eight signings this summer. Wycombe are under new ownership, yet with most of their signings coming from the free market, the new owners may be trying a more prudent approach to recruitment.

Paul Mullin is injured, so Ollie Palmer will likely lead the line. Wrexham deployed a 4-4-2 in their game against Fleetwood Town.

          Wycombe Wanderers Team News

Matt Bloomfield likes to experiment with the 4-2-3-1 formation. Richard Kone is likely to feature.

          Recent Form

Wycombe Wanderers are without a clean sheet in their previous four, as they travel to face Wrexham on the opening day of the season. Wycombe have been the first to concede in five of their last six, with the home side breaking the Over 2.5 market in eight of their last ten.

Wrexham’s pre-season preparations showed significant signs of success for the season ahead; Wrexham only lost once in pre-season, having won three and drawn the remaining two games. One of the more notable results Phil Parkinson’s side achieved was a 2-2 draw against Chelsea, thanks to goals from Jack Marriott and Luke Bolton. Wrexham ended their pre-season preparations with a 1-0 win over League Two Fleetwood Town.

The home side was in brilliant form towards the end of the League Two campaign, ending with five consecutive league wins as they finished second behind Stockport County. Wrexham’s final league game of the season was triumphant, as they beat eventual league champions Stockport County 2-1 - with goals from Ollie Palmer and Andy Cannon.

Wycombe Wanderers had a small pre-season compared to the teams around them, having only played four recognised pre-season friendlies. Wycombe Wanderers only won once during pre-season, having lost twice and drawn once. The away side did record an imposing victory over Championship side Watford, thanks to goals from Beryly Lubala, Josh Scowen & Richard Kone.

The Chairboys were superb towards the end of last season, having remained undefeated in their final six games. Wycombe Wanderers won four of the previous six, including an excellent away win at Carlisle United thanks to goals from Gareth McLeary with two and Richard Kone.

The away side would have confidence heading into this game despite Wrexham being the favourites. Wycombe Wanderers have won three of the last four competitive away games, with their previous win being the win over Carlisle United.
