Next Rangers Manager Odds

Russell Martin is under increasing pressure as Rangers manager since the disastrous 9-1 aggregate defeat against Club Brugge in midweek, which saw the side from Glasgow eliminated from the UEFA Champions League.

The former Southampton boss, who was a huge culprit in the Saints' Premier League calamity last season, has yet to endear himself to the Ibrox faithful, with calls for his dismissal only a month into the regular season.

His tenure at Rangers has seen only three wins from 10 matches, with his tactical ideology seemingly an awful fit for Rangers. In fact, among the managers who have managed four or more matches for Rangers, he has the worst win percentage with 30%.

The constant pressure and speculation surrounding the managerial job at Rangers last led us to pick out four managers in line to take over should the inevitable happen with Russell Martin's Rangers career.

Latest Odds

Here are the listed odds on who will become the next manager of Rangers, provided by talkSPORT BET:

  • Sean Dyche - 11/4
  • Steven Gerrard - 3/1
  • Danny Rohl - 7/2
  • Gary O'Neil - 4/1
  • Barry Ferguson - 8/1
  • Michael Carrick - 8/1
  • Steve Cooper - 10/1
  • Chris Wilder - 12/1
  • Kevin Muscat - 16/1

Sean Dyche: 11/4

Sean Dyche has been away from the managerial game since his dismissal from Everton in January. However, given the reputation of Sean Dyche within the football industry, the 54-year-old has continuously been linked with high-profile jobs such as Nottingham Forest, and talkSPORT BET has him as the early favourite to replace Russell Martin as Rangers manager.

Dyche began his managerial career with Watford, having previously been an assistant manager for the Hornets, where he achieved a 1.37 points per game average during his tenure at Vicarage Road. Burnley is where Dyche made his managerial career worth noting, as he led Burnley to two promotions (one league title) and consolidated Burnley as a resolute Premier League side for five straight seasons.

During his time at Turf Moor, he also guided Burnley to European football in the 2017/18 season, as the Clarets finished in seventh place. Dyche was then dismissed by the Clarets at the end of the 2021/22 season and then joined Everton in January 2023.

Dyche secured two consecutive seasons of top-flight status for the Toffees, but was sacked three hours before an FA Cup Third Round tie against Peterborough United in January 2025.

Latest Odds: 11/4

Steven Gerrard: 3/1

Steven Gerrard's time at Al-Ettifaq and Aston Villa has painted a somewhat distorted view of Gerrard's managerial abilities. However, if you ask any Rangers fan, they will happily welcome back Gerrard with open arms following his monumental success with the club.

Gerrard was appointed as Rangers manager on the 1st of June 2018 and made his senior managerial debut in a 2-0 win against FC Shkupi of Macedonia in the Europa League. That season, Rangers went on a 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions, which was abruptly ended by Celtic in the Old Firm Derby.

On the 29th of December 2019, Gerrard recorded Rangers' first win against Celtic since 2012. The crowning achievement for Steven Gerrard took place in the 2020/21 season, as Rangers won the Scottish Premiership with ease following an invincible season.

Latest Odds: 3/1

Danny Rohl: 7/2

Danny Rohl has been linked with a multitude of jobs since his resignation from Sheffield Wednesday, including Southampton, Leicester City and Brentford.

The 36-year-old is the youngest manager on this list to be linked with the Rangers job. Still, his limited coaching career has earned him a reputation as one of the more promising managers in the game. Rohl began his coaching career working at the likes of Southampton, Bayern Munich and finally as an assistant in the German national team.

His coaching career was launched when Sheffield Wednesday took a chance and appointed him as manager in October 2023. Rohl began his senior managerial career with a defeat against Watford, but in December of that year, Rohl had guided the Owls to four wins from seven games. This run of form earned him a nomination for Championship Manager of the Month.

Rohl had a modest win rate of 38% at Sheffield Wednesday, and yet his time was cut short due to the financial instability at the Yorkshire club.

Latest Odds: 7/2

Gary O'Neil: 4/1

Gary O'Neil is the third manager on this list to have Premier League experience, and although Rangers fans may be scorned with another former Premier League manager arriving at Ibrox, Gary O'Neil could provide a much more solid option than Russell Martin.

The former Portsmouth midfielder earned his coaching badges at Liverpool before moving to become a first-team coach at Bournemouth under Jonathan Woodgate. O'Neil remained at the club following Woodgate's departure and stayed as part of the coaching staff under Scott Parker's promotion for the Cherries.

O'Neil was then placed in temporary charge of Bournemouth following Parker's departure, and was rewarded the permanent job on an 18-month deal following 13 points accumulated from a possible 33. O'Neil guided the Cherries to survival, but was dismissed the following summer for Andoni Iraola.

Wolves then opted to appoint O'Neil, and he repeated the same success of guiding Wolves to Premier League survival. Form dipped during the 2024/25 season, as the side were 19th in the league, four points from safety, which ultimately led to his dismissal.

Latest Odds: 4/1

Other managers to be considered

Kevin Muscat - 16/1

The 52-year-old former Australia international is currently the manager of Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Port, where he managed to win the league title last season, as well as the 2024 Chinese FA Cup. Muscat has had a decent managerial career, having also coached Melbourne Victory to the A-League Championship in both 2015 and 2018, as well as leading them to the A-League Premiership title in 2015 along with the FFA Cup.

Derek McInnes - 20/1

McInnes has a good reputation in Scotland, having put Aberdeen back on the map during his spell as manager of the Pittodrie club between April 2013 and March 2021, leading them to several second-place finishes while managing to lead the club to four domestic cup finals.

Our Prediction

In Football, everyone loves a brilliant story, and with the Rangers fans clamouring for his return, our pick to become the next Rangers manager is Steven Gerrard.

Gerrard will welcome the opportunity to restore some pride to his managerial career following his spells at Aston Villa and Al-Ettifaq, and what better way to do so than returning to the place that brought him much success.

Prediction: Steven Gerrard - 3/1
