Goncalo Ramos Transfer News & Odds

After his promotion to Benfica’s senior team in 2020, Goncalo Ramos has made 64 league appearances for Benfica as a forward. The Portuguese striker has scored 30 goals for Benfica but is heavily linked with a move away from Portugal this summer.

The 22-year-old was influential in Benfica winning the Portuguese Primeira title last campaign, having scored 19 and created seven assists in 30 matches, however, he looks set to leave this summer with many top teams looking to fill voids in this position. It looks as though Benfica have prepared for Ramos' eventual departure following the signing of Casper Tengstedt from Rosenborg mid-way through the 2022/23 season.

Manchester United are reportedly the lead contender for Ramos’ signature this summer, with the Portuguese’ price tag rumoured to be around the £80 million mark.

Ramos could be a part of Erik ten Hag’s summer rebuild in order to set United up to truly compete for the Premier League title this season. Ten Hag has rotated the striker position between a number of players, including Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, however, the former is said to be on the transfer list.

For comparison, in his 56 games, Rashford scored 30 goals and in just 30 Primeira Liga games, Ramos scored 19 goals. This means Ramos scores every 121 minutes, in comparison to Rashford’s goal every 143 minutes and Martial’s nine goals and a goal every 389 minutes.

This signing allegedly already has the green light from within United, meaning that a move to the red side of Manchester could definitely be a likely sight this summer.

However, Ramos may not go after all. Though Ramos’ youth career started in Olhanense and Loule, the Portuguese moved to Benfica all the way back in 2013, where he stayed until his senior debut in 2019.

Ramos didn’t become a consistent starter until the 2021/22 season, where he made 29 appearances in the Primeira Liga and scored seven goals. He also made 11 appearances with one goal in the Champions League. However, Ramos really cemented himself as one of the strikers to watch in Europe in the 2022/23 season, scoring 19 goals in 30 Primeira Liga, and seven goals in 14 appearances in the Champions League.

Overall, in his time at Benfica, Ramos has won the Primeira Liga title once in the 2022/23 season, coming up short in the Finals of the Taca de Portugal in 2021 and the Taca da Liga in 2022. This means Ramos is likely to stick around to fully fulfil his potential at Benfica.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are another club interested in acquiring the talents of Ramos this summer.

Since Robert Lewandowski left the club last season for Barcelona, the Bavarian giants have struggled to replace his goal-scoring habits. Serge Gnabry has been the starting striker for Bayern this season, making 42 appearances and scoring 19 in comparison to Ramos’ 27 goals in 47 games.

Though this move could be more likely than you think, Thomas Tuchel may have a lot of attacking talent to juggle and keep happy, a good problem to have as a manager.

Much like the January transfer window, Chelsea are once again linked to nearly every notable name this summer, one of these being Ramos.

Chelsea have had a problem with their forward position since the departure of Diego Costa from their squad back in the 2017/18 season. The likes of Tammy Abraham, Gonzalo Higuain, Alvaro Morata, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Romelu Lukaku have all tried to lead the line for Chelsea, each failing to make too much of an impression.

The inability to consistently score has been one of the most egregious issues at Chelsea, so the signing of Ramos could remedy this issue. Though this may be on the fence of happening, previous Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez made the jump to Chelsea in January which could be a somewhat incentive for Ramos.

With Kylian Mbappe linked with yet another move away from Paris and the move of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami already, Ramos has become a likely and viable option for the Parisian giants.

PSG have shortlisted Ramos amongst other top performers such as Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Oshimen, with the Portuguese probably the most likely option for PSG. Along with his impressive statistics, including 27 goals and 12 assists in all competitions in the 2022/23 season, Ramos is still only 21 years old meaning he could lead PSG’s line for the foreseeable future if Mbappe was to leave.

A supposed £60 million offer has already been made, but with tough competition, it’ll be a battle to see this signing through.

Real Madrid already started their transfer window activity with the high-profile signing of English star Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, but are seemingly looking to add even more to their squad.

The departure of club legend and second-highest scorer for Real Madrid, Karim Benzema. The Frenchman scored 354 goals for Real, and without him, Madrid will need a new striker.

Though Benzema will be a tough act to follow, Ramos managed to score 19 goals in five fewer games than Benzema who bagged 24 goals in 35 games. With the added help of the likes of Vinicius Junior on the wing, Ramos may be able to rise to the challenge.

This may be the least likely pairing in this list, Ramos would be given the opportunity to lead the line of one of the biggest clubs in football and compete for the biggest trophies.
