Ivan Perisic Transfer News & Odds

Croatian wing-back Ivan Perisic has come to the end of his contract at Inter Milan, making the 33-year-old available as a free transfer. With Bayern Munich, Perisic won the Champions League, the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal. The Croatian also won the DFB Pokal with VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, he also won the German top flight with the latter.

In his time at his current club, Inter Milan, Perisic has won the Serie A in the 2020/21 season, and the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana this season.

The Croatian can be described as a serial winner, winning silverware with every club he’s played at, and an obvious choice for many suitors across Europe.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham are looking increasingly likely to finalise the signing of Ivan Perisic, reportedly reaching a full agreement with the Croatian and Inter Milan. Perisic previously played under current Spurs boss Antonio Conte when he was at Inter, where they won the Serie A in the 2020/21 season.

In the Serie A winning season, Perisic made 42 appearances under Conte, scoring five goals and providing five assists from a wing-back role. This season, Perisic made 49 appearances in all competitions, the Croatian scored ten goals and registered nine assists.

The wing-backs used by Conte this season at Tottenham, Sergio Reguilon, Ryan Sessegnon, Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal, haven’t fared as well. Perisic scored eight goals in the league, whereas the three Tottenham wing-backs totalled only five - with Reguilon registering two, Doherty scoring two and Royal only finding the net once.

As for assists, Perisic registered seven in Serie A, with Doherty only managing four, Reguilon three and Royal only one. Overall, Perisic is a proven player in Conte’s system and an experienced player and winner, a somewhat necessary addition for Tottenham.

Chelsea

Some reports in Italy had alleged that Chelsea had reached an agreement to sign Ivan Perisic on a free transfer for the Croatian to become the first signing of the Boehly era. Though, the new man in West London may get a rude awakening in English football as Chelsea are looking likely to fight Tottenham for Perisic’s signature.

The Blues were closely linked to Perisic back in January after the season-ending injury to Ben Chilwell. That injury and the one to Reece James are the exact reasons why Chelsea may be keen for Perisic to make the move to London.

Chilwell only made seven appearances in the Premier League, scoring three goals and registering a single assist. James managed to make 26 appearances, but scored five goals and provided nine assists. This shows the importance of attack-minded wing-backs to Thomas Tuchel’s system at Chelsea, something Perisic can add to.

The Croatian is a very forward player, scoring eight and creating seven goals, making him a perfect candidate for Tuchel and Chelsea.

Juventus

A stay in Italy could also be in the cards for Perisic, with a move north to Turin and to a Juventus side that wants to return to the top of Italian football. Juventus haven’t won the Serie A since 2020, a short time but a long absence from the top for a team that had finished top of the league for nine consecutive seasons.

Perisic was part of the Inter Milan team that broke the Juventus domination, with the Bianconeri falling to fourth that season, 13 points behind Inter. Juventus finished fourth this season, this time 16 points behind champions AC Milan, showing that Massimiliano Allegri needs to strengthen his squad if the Bianconeri are to challenge for the title again.

Though Perisic’s defensive capabilities cannot be undermined, in relation to Juventus, his attacking prowess is very important. The Croatian scored eight goals in this Serie A season, which would make him third top scorer for Juventus.

Only Paulo Dybala on ten goals and Alvaro Morata and Dusan Vlahovic on nine goals have more than Perisic, showing how important this potential transfer could be for Juventus.

Newcastle United

The first summer transfer window for Newcastle United under their new ownership could be a big one, with the early signs showing that The Magpies will be splashing the cash. However, one of the potential signings could see Perisic swap Milan for Newcastle on a free transfer.

This new era for Newcastle could be dependent on this transfer window and The Magpies putting their money in the right places. Other players linked to Newcastle are young, such as Sven Botman who is only 22, suggesting that Eddie Howe is building a team for the future. However, the risk of young talent needs to be counterbalanced by more experienced and dependable signings - like Perisic.

Perisic is a proven winner, something that Newcastle could use if they plan to really challenge under their new owners. Along with his experience, Perisic also brings his attack-minded football, something to a Newcastle team that only scored 44 goals this Premier League season, is very important. In fact, Perisic’s eight goals in the Serie A would’ve made him joint top scorer for Newcastle with Callum Wilson.
