Mason Mount looks like he’s on the way out of Chelsea following news that he is unlikely to extend his contract with the Stamford Bridge club.
The 24-year-old Portsmouth-born midfielder has been at the Blues since 2005 and has just one year left on his current contract. Mount has played a total of 129 league games for Chelsea, scoring 27 times, while also having productive loan spells at the likes of Vitesse and Derby County.
Manchester United are firm favourites to sign Mount from Chelsea, with it being rumoured that the Old Trafford club have agreed on terms with the 24-year-old and are just looking to come to an agreement with the Blues on a transfer fee.
Erik ten Hag is said to have been tracking Mount since his loan spell at Vitesse in 2017/18 and would likely be a long-term successor for Christian Eriksen in United’s starting line-up. On top of this, Mount would be a high-quality option for United when it comes to the home-grown quota.
Mount is priced at 4/1 to stay at Chelsea this summer. Perhaps this could be down to the fact that United’s ownership situation has still not been resolved on top of the fact that the Blues could still offer him an upgraded contract.
Some newspaper reports have stated that Chelsea are looking for £70m plus add-ons for Mount, which is a premium fee to pay for a player that has just 12 months left on his contract.
Liverpool were reportedly interested in Mount until it emerged that the player favours a move to their bitter rivals in United.
However, should the Red Devils struggle to come to an agreement on the transfer fee, there is always a chance that the Anfield club could reignite their interest in the player, with Jurgen Klopp’s men allowing the likes of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita to leave on free transfers.

The likes of Mount will be of interest to the St James’ Park club, especially if they miss out on signing the likes of James Maddison with Tottenham Hotspur also interested in the Leicester City playmaker.
