Sami Khedira Transfer News

Sami Khedira's five-year stay at Juventus is coming to an end with the German yet to make an appearance for the Italian giants this season and he seemingly already has one foot out the door in Turin, despite his contract expiring in July.

Speaking to The Athletic recently, the 33-year-old stated his desire and intentions to move to the Premier League, having won the Bundesliga, La Liga and Serie A and now wanting to complete his 'collection' of winning medals.

“The Premier League is still missing in my collection, to play there would be the icing on the cake,” Khedira said.

"There are fewer breaks in the game and many counter-attacks, but this is what I like.

"I’ve done a lot of extra sessions with fitness coaches to get myself ready for a higher pace and intensity in the Premier League.”

Now in January, and with a few months left on his deal at Juventus, we take a look at where next for Khedira and the latest Khedira transfer news, as it looks all but certain the experienced midfielder is set to touch down in England.

Leading the way as the clear favourites are Everton, who have been no stranger to signing players looking to move away from a top European outfit like Juventus, with James Rodriguez joining from Real Madrid and Allan from Napoli last window.

As mentioned, Khedira has already stated his intention to join a Premier League club, but having won the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, La Liga with Madrid and Serie A with Juventus, his aims might be a little further higher up the table than Everton. However, with the likes of Liverpool, both Manchester clubs and Chelsea relatively equipped in this department, the German might have to settle for the Toffees, who, at the very least, are contesting the Champions League spots this campaign.

At 33, and with Carlo Ancelotti a former manager of Khedira's at Real, it seems the perfect fit for the Germany international to make his Premier League dream come true on the blue of Merseyside, years after winning the Champions League together in Madrid.

"We’ve kept in contact over the years,“ Khedira told The Athletic about Everton boss Ancelotti.

"Him and Jose are both amazing personalities from whom I’ve learned so much, about the game and about myself.

"They’re both at clubs that play an important role in the league. So let’s see what happens.”

Right now, odds are at 4/6 for Khedira to reunite with Khedira and join this constantly evolving team of experienced, elite winners at Goodison Park, and, it does seem like the glove fits perfectly with this one.

Sami Khedira Spurs odds

The other club linked with the signature of Khedira is the club of which one of his former managers is also present, Tottenham Hotspur. The ex-Real man worked under Jose Mourinho at Los Blancos for three seasons, where the two managed to accumulate one La Liga title, one Copa del Rey and a Supercopa de Espana together.

Unlike other top clubs in England who might like to acquire Khedira's services, it seems as if Spurs are one of the sides that do in fact need to bolster their midfield with experience and defensive stability. Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Harry Winks, Eric Dier, Tanguy Ndombele, Moussa Sissoko and Gedson Fernandes make up a midfield that is weak in numbers for Mourinho, considering they all offer something different, whilst Dier has worked much of this season at centre-back.

This has meant an out-and-out defensive midfielder falls on the shoulders of Højbjerg only, and nobody else can really fit into this role as simple as Khedira has done for over a decade, which could force this transfer over the line.

Another reason that bulks this rumour up ever so slightly, is the budget of Spurs' transfer dealings has seemingly increased since moving to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, almost two years after they infamously never bought a single player in the summer of 2019. And, given how Khedira could join for a small fee - being six months from a free agent and 33 - this could be a factor that puts pen to paper.

And, similarly to Everton, Mourinho is a manager who the midfielder worked well alongside and who became an integral part of the Portuguese winning philosophy. Now, odds are st 8/1 for Khedira to join Spurs in the January window.
