Potential FA Cup Upsets to Watch in the 3rd Round This Weekend

Latest News

Boreham Wood vs Millwall

Luke Garrard’s in-form Boreham Wood side host Millwall at Meadow Park in an early kick-off on Saturday. The Wood have won their last six games in all competitions and beat League Two side Southend United in the first round, via penalty shootout.

Meanwhile, Millwall may decide to concentrate on their league form rather than an FA Cup run, having won just one game in their previous 13, a run stretching back to October.

With players potentially being rested, against a team in such good form, Millwall are certainly in danger of being the subjects of an FA Cup upset. The National League side have never got to the fourth round, but we think they could run out 3-2 winners and cause a shock result this weekend.

Boreham Wood are now priced at 17/2 to win by a scoreline of 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1 - click this link to claim this bet!

Chorley vs Derby County

England legend and temporary Derby County manager Wayne Rooney travels to Chorley for an early kick-off on Saturday.

The home side have been fantastic in the FA Cup this season, knocking out Peterborough United and Wigan Athletic away from home in the last two rounds. Plus, having picked up 19 points in their last ten games and losing just once since October in the league, Chorley will fancy their chances in Lancashire at the weekend.

Similarly to Millwall, Derby will most likely rest key players for this FA Cup clash, as they are currently sat in the relegation zone and will focus on league matches. However, with Rooney wanting the job on a permanent basis, the former Manchester United striker will be keen to avoid an embarrassing FA Cup exit.

A famous result for Chorley could be on the cards, and we think a 2-0 scoreline is certainly not out of question.

Blackpool vs West Brom

Premier League West Brom face a tough fixture away at Bloomfield Road, where they face Neil Critchley’s Blackpool. New Baggies boss Sam Allardyce hasn’t had the impact he’d have hoped for since his appointment and has broken the record for the worst home record after three games at a new club, having lost 5-0 to Leeds United and 4-0 to Arsenal at The Hawthorns in a week.

Blackpool have won four of their last five home games but will go into the game as underdogs, despite breezing through the previous two rounds with 3-0 and 4-0 wins against Eastbourne Boro and Harrogate Town respectively.
Allardyce’s new team have scored just once and conceded 13 goals in his four games and their next five Premier League games give them chances to pick up points. Having never been relegated, ‘Big Sam’ will surely prioritise league football over a cup run.

This should be an entertaining game of football and we wouldn’t be surprised if it goes to extra-time, but we will go for a 2-1 win for the Tangerines - click here to claim this scoreline at 12/1.

Huddersfield Town vs Plymouth Argyle

Huddersfield Town had won five home games on the bounce until defeat against Reading last weekend, but a number of injuries have given them little chance to rotate the squad in recent games. Meanwhile, Ryan Lowe’s Plymouth Argyle have the worst away record in League One and have picked up just three points in nine games away from Home Park.

We expect Town to make a number of changes as they look to improve on their dismal FA Cup record, where they have been knocked out at the first time of asking in five of their last seven FA Cup campaigns.

Argyle’s FA Cup record isn’t much better, they look to reach the fourth round for the first time in 13 years, however, we think they could take advantage of a weak Huddersfield side and get a 2-1 victory on the road - click here to claim this bet at 12/1.

Newport County vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Newport County have proven to be strong in the cup over the last few years, beating sides such as Leeds United, Leicester City, Middlesbrough as well as forcing a replay against Tottenham Hotspur all within the last three seasons. On the other hand, Brighton & Hove Albion reached the semi-finals in the 2018-19 season.

The Exiles have won seven of their nine games at Rodney Parade this campaign and have proven to be difficult for big teams to break down at home.

Brighton won just once since September and are without a win in eight in the league. A weakened side could struggle in a notoriously difficult fixture.

We are opting for some Sunday night cup magic, with Newport winning 1-0 and you can claim this bet at 18/1 right here.
