5 2022/23 PL RABs That Could Still Come off

Manchester United look like they could have potentially turned a corner following their 2-1 victory over Liverpool in their third game of the season.

Erik ten Hag’s men played a confident game plan, reminiscent of what they showed throughout pre-season and will be looking to take momentum into their next few matches. At present, the Red Devils are just four points outside the top four and will be looking to eat up that gap.

Meanwhile, many had Tottenham Hotspur down as favourites to finish third-place this campaign behind Manchester City and Liverpool in pre-season. Antonio Conte’s men look to be building on their fourth-place finish from last season, having earned seven points from their first three matches.

Despite their confidence-boosting win over Liverpool, could this be a false dawn for United? After all, they are six points behind the likes of Arsenal already, as well as four adrift of Spurs and Manchester City. With Liverpool also behind them and likely to start picking up points again, there is always the possibility of them not making it.

Crystal Palace have had a solid start to the season, as despite falling to an unfortunate 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal, the Eagles earned a reputable 1-1 draw at Anfield against Liverpool before beating Aston Villa at the weekend.

Leicester have had a shocking start to the season, seeing them earn just one point from three matches. At present, Brendan Rodgers is the bookmakers’ favourite to be sacked, having made no additions to his first team squad despite Kasper Schmeichel’s departure - whilst James Maddison, Wesley Fofana and Youri Tielemans have all been linked with moves away.

Leeds United look likely to stay up already due to having an excellent start to the 2022/23 campaign, which has seen them pick up seven points from three matches.

Bournemouth could be set for a season of struggle under Scott Parker, as following their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on the opening day, the Cherries have looked poor in heavy defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City.

As mentioned above, Tottenham and Crystal Palace both look on course for positive seasons if they carry on their current trajectory.

Meanwhile, Everton could be on for another season of struggle alongside Leicester if they aren’t careful, as the Toffees have only managed to earn one point from their first three matches after narrowly surviving relegation last campaign.

Nottingham Forest have had a positive start to the season, as Steve Cooper’s men had picked up four points from their opening three matches. The Reds have spent £133m and shown plenty of ambition to stay in England’s top-flight beyond this campaign.

At present, Arsenal are top of the Premier League with nine points from a possible of nine following an impressive start to the league season that has seen them earn wins against Palace, Leicester and Bournemouth. Mikel Arteta’s men look like they could be well on course for a top four finish due to their fast start.

Gabriel Jesus has also had a superb start to life at Arsenal, as the 25-year-old Brazilian has scored two goals and created three assists in his first three matches for the club.

Fulham have had a positive start to life in the Premier League, but, what may play into the back of their minds is the fact that they have suffered relegations back to the Championship in each of their last two top-flight campaigns.

City come into this season looking to win the Premier League for the fifth time in six seasons, whilst Arsenal look as though they may have learned from their mistakes last season that saw them narrowly miss out on the top four.

Patrick Vieira’s Palace side finished just three points shy of the top half last season and are currently ninth after just three games this time around, having already faced the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth and Fulham could have tricky seasons having only been promoted last season from the Championship, whilst Everton could have another season of struggle following just one point from their opening three matches.
