5 Players to Consider for FPL Gameweek 2

James

Brentford vs Manchester United: Ivan Toney (7m)

Ivan Toney got off to a good start to his second season in the Premier League, netting a goal to ignite Brentford’s comeback to salvage a draw away to Leicester City, which netted his FPL owners some bonus points in gameweek 1.

This weekend Toney’s Brentford are hosts to Manchester United, whose struggles were on display last weekend against Brighton, most notably their problems dealing with Danny Welbeck, with his movement and physicality causing them all sorts of problems.

Toney has that mix of great athleticism, movement and goal-scoring ability to unsettle the United defence, which showed its frailties against Brighton, especially aerily if Toney can latch himself onto 5’9 Lisandro Martinez from an incoming cross.

Nottingham Forest vs West Ham: Jarrod Bowen (8.5m)

After one of the toughest starts to the Premier League season, losing to defending champions Manchester City, Jarrod Bowen owners in FPL would be disappointed after garnering few points, but coming up against newly promoted Nottingham Forest could get him firing for the season.

Nottingham Forest really struggled in their first game back in the Premier League, not even managing a shot on target, whilst conceding 23 shots on goal, including 10 on target.

Bowen was very productive last season in the league, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists and if Forest give him the same chances they gave to Newcastle players, he has the quality to punish them multiple times.

Arsenal vs Leicester City: Gabriel Martinelli (6m)

Martinelli and Arsenal are looking to explode onto the Premier League this season, with both getting good starts to the season against Crystal Palace, with Martinelli scoring to help Arsenal secure a 2-0 in a very difficult environment in Selhurst Park.

Arsenal are now welcoming Leicester City to the Emirates, whose defence was very questionable last season, conceding the seventh most goals in the league and was no better to start the season, conceding twice at home to Brentford, giving Martinelli the platform to continue his great start to the season coming up against a very shaky defence.

Aston Villa vs Everton: Phillipe Coutinho (7m)

A lot of FPL owners were disappointed with Aston Villa’s opening day result after backing them to beat newly promoted Bournemouth, but they should stay calm if their recent results against Everton are anything to go by.

Since coming back into the Premier League in 2019, Everton have failed to beat Aston Villa, losing four times and drawing twice, including two losses last season, while Coutinho also has a great record against Everton, not losing in his ten games against the Toffees, which could kickstart the season for both Aston Villa and Coutinho.

Man City vs AFC Bournemouth: Joao Cancelo (7m)

Players like Joao Cancelo have become a cheat code for FPL owners in recent years, with them contributing massively in attack whilst also getting points for clean sheets, and coming up against newly promoted Bournemouth at home, it looks like a gameweek for Joao Cancelo.

In Bournemouth’s five seasons in the Premier League, they failed to take a single point off Manchester City, with City averaging 3.2 goals per game, whilst conceding 0.7 goals per game, perfectly setting the game up for City to dominate the game, with Cancelo a key part at both ends of the pitch for Pep Guardiola’s team.
