Arsenal vs Everton Prediction

Everton didn’t make life easy for Arsenal last season with the two meetings finishing 1-0 and 2-1 in favour of the Gunners. The affairs were cagey but they made it five wins for the London club in the last six clashes between the sides giving Arsenal the upper hand in this tie.

Mikel Arteta’s side have scored 19 goals in their last six showing that they have rediscovered their attacking verve but Everton have become a side that rarely gets thrashed. Manchester United are the only team in the last 11 games to have scored more than once against the Toffees showing the resilience Sean Dyche’s men have at the back.

The difference in quality will make it difficult for Everton to get anything from this game though, especially away from home so we expect an Arsenal win although not necessarily by a huge margin. Arsenal 2-0 Everton

Arsenal vs Everton Preview and Prediction

Arsenal are in a good spell of form but had a setback in their hunt for the league title last weekend. Can they get a vital win here?

  • Date: 14/12/2024
  • Kick Off Time: 15:00
  • Location: The Emirates Stadium, London

Arsenal come into this match on a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions but with two draws in the league in that time the Gunners know they can’t afford too many more slip-ups if they are to end their 20-year wait for a Premier League title.

Navigating injuries has been a big talking point for the Gunners this season and while they have a few absentees at the back, it’s been when their offensive players have been missing that they have struggled most.

Fortunately for Mikel Arteta, key men like Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard are getting regular run-outs and are making big contributions. Saka was involved in all three goals against Monaco in the week taking him up to seven goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season and there has been a resurgence to the Gunners' attack with goals aplenty.

And when it comes to goals, set pieces continue to dominate the narrative with Arsenal leading the way once more for set play goals in the Premier League with eight. Opponents Everton aren’t too bad themselves though, with six goals from set pieces placing them in joint 2nd place for this metric. Interestingly, Arsenal have conceded more set-piece goals than this weekend’s opponents so maybe this is where Everton can spring a surprise.

It would most likely be from a dead-ball situation if Everton were to get anything from this game. Their contentment with allowing the hosts to have the ball, alongside Arsenal’s superior players to do so, will mean the visitors are relying on counterattacks and will be hoping to use these moments to win free kicks and corners. With Arsenal potentially missing key defensive assets, it isn’t impossible to rule out some chances for Dyche’s men in these situations.

It will also be interesting to see whether the time off helps or hinders the away side on Saturday. Due to the postponement of the Merseyside derby, Everton haven’t played since December, while Arsenal have had two games since then. The rest could be of benefit, but many in the game attribute ‘rhythm’ to being a key factor to which Arsenal will have the advantage.

Arsenal vs Everton Team News

Gabriel is still a doubt for Arsenal as is Riccardo Calafiori with neither of the Gunners’ defenders featuring since the win over West Ham at the end of November. Oleksandr Zinchenko, Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are longer-term absentees.

Rumours have been circulating that Declan Rice will miss the game as he has now received five yellow cards however the former West Ham midfielder will be available as two of his yellows were in one game and therefore count as a solitary red card instead of two cautions in the eyes of the Football Association. That will certainly be a relief for the Arsenal fans.

Everton have no fresh injury concerns. Michael Keane, who has missed the last couple of games, could be available for this match. James Garner, Tim Iroegbunam and Youssef Chermiti are all expected to still be out.

Recent Form/Form Guide

Arsenal are currently unbeaten in seven games in all competitions, going back to their 1-1 draw with Chelsea in November. Since then, there have been some big wins for the Gunners, hitting three without reply against Nottingham Forest and scoring five against both Sporting Lisbon and West Ham. In their last three, wins over Manchester United and Monaco were pleasing for Mikel Arteta however the 1-1 draw with Fulham in between was a setback to their title hopes.

Everton only have one win in their last six and that came last time out against strugglers Wolves with the Toffees winning 4-0. That was the same scoreline in their trip to Old Trafford the game before, although it was Manchester United who were victorious. In the four matches prior they picked up three draws with Fulham, West Ham and Brentford and lost to Southampton which remains as Saints’ only league win of the season so far.
