Arsenal vs Ipswich Prediction

Arsenal have been in excellent form, with no losses in their last ten in all competitions, and seven wins - including a 2-0 win over Manchester United. In the Premier League, the Gunners are unbeaten in their previous eight, following their impressive 5-1 win against Crystal Palace away from home. At home is where Arsenal are the strongest on all fronts in the Premier League, with five wins and three draws from eight, leaving them unbeaten.

Following their 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United, Ipswich Town have now lost four of their last five, with their previous win taking place against Wolverhampton Wanderers two weeks prior. The Tractor Boys are unlikely to keep out a side who recently scored five, and the visitors are without a clean sheet in their previous 13 league games – Arsenal 3-0 Ipswich

Arsenal vs Ipswich: Preview & Prediction

Arsenal host Ipswich Town in the Premier League looking for another three points to keep them within touching distance of the top of the table.

Date: 27/12/24

Kick-off time: 20:15

Venue: Emirates Stadium

After two consecutive draws against Fulham and Everton, Arsenal responded excellently with a 5-1 win over Crystal Palace. The victory kept them in third, but they are now just two points behind second place Chelsea and remain six adrift of leaders Liverpool.

It has been a much different story for Ipswich as they are struggling towards the bottom of the table. The Tractor Boys are hoping to avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship, but are currently in 19th, two points from safety. They have won just two games all season, and have lost four of their last five games. Last time out, they were convincingly beaten 4-0 at home by Newcastle.

This makes it a daunting task for the visitors as they travel to an Arsenal side who got their groove back offensively at the weekend. Gabriel Jesus has re-emerged as a dangerous threat up front, having scored five goals in his last two games in all competitions. Ipswich have kept only one clean sheet all season, so all the signs are pointing towards plenty of success for a confident home side.

Bukayo Saka has been the Gunners’ best player, contributing 15 goals and assists, but could miss out after suffering what looked like a bad hamstring injury which forced him off in their most recent game. Whilst this will be a blow, it will likely give Leandro Trossard the opportunity to start and add to his three league goals.

At the other end, Arsenal have a strong defence headlined by centre-back pairing William Saliba and Gabriel. They should be confident in keeping out an Ipswich attack who have scored the third-least goals in the division. However, if Kieran McKenna’s side are to threaten, they can look to striker Liam Delap to test the goalkeeper. The Englishman has scored six goals so far in an impressive debut campaign.

Fixtures have been rare between these two sides as the last meeting took place in 2011. The pair met in the League Cup semi-final over two legs, which Arsenal won on aggregate 3-1. However, Ipswich were winners in their home tie. They last faced off in the Premier League in 2002, which the Gunners won 2-0 at Highbury. In fact, Ipswich have never beaten Arsenal in the Premier League in 10 attempts.

Team News

Arsenal

Mikel Arteta was dealt a huge blow as Bukayo Saka was substituted at the weekend with a hamstring injury that looks like it may keep him out for some time. Takehiro Tomiyasu’s availability remains in doubt, whilst Ben White is a long-term absentee.

Ipswich

After missing the last game through suspension, Liam Delap is eligible to return and will likely start. Axel Tuanzebe and Chiedozie Ogbene are out long term. The side should have no new injury concerns following the weekend.

Form Guide

Arsenal

In their last five games, Arsenal have won three and drawn two. After dropping points in consecutive games, the Gunners have returned to winning ways. They are unbeaten in this stretch, with the first game of this run a 1-1 draw. William Saliba cancelled out an early opener from Raul Jimenez.

Attention shifted to European action as they hosted Monaco in the Champions League. They were comfortable 3-0 winners, with Bukayo Saka (x2) and Kai Havertz on the scoresheet. A home game against Everton followed as they were held to a goalless draw, dropping more points in the title race.

A midweek fixture saw them take on Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. They advanced to the semi-finals with a 3-2 win as a Gabriel Jesus hat-trick helped them overcome an early deficit. The Gunners faced the same opponents at the weekend in the league, and it was a comprehensive 5-1 win on the road. Jesus continued his fine form with a brace, after Ismaila Sarr cancelled out an early opener. Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice completed the scoring.

Ipswich:

In their last five games, Ipswich have won one and lost four. It has been a difficult stretch for Ipswich as they have struggled for points. This run started with an away game at Nottingham Forest, where they lost 1-0. Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot.

They lost to Crystal Palace by the same scoreline in their following game at home. Jean-Philippe Mateta netted the winner. A third consecutive loss occurred at Portman Road as they lost 2-1 to Bournemouth. It was a heartbreaking defeat as they held a lead until the 87th minute. Conor Chaplin had given them the lead but late goals from Enes Unal and Dango Ouattara snatched the win at the death.

A trip to Wolves finally resulted in a win, as they were on the right side of a 2-1 scoreline. A Matt Doherty own goal put the Tractor Boys in front, but Matheus Cunha levelled the score with less than 20 minutes to go. It was late drama once more as Jack Taylor netted the winner deep into stoppage time. In their most recent game, Ipswich hosted Newcastle. They were on the end of a 4-0 loss, as they conceded a hat-trick to Alexander Isak.
